This posting serves to fill a new position within TSS Projects & Construction West as follows:

Project Manager – Energy Services

  • This position will support APC Energy Services originated projects at customer sites.

  • Travel (approximately 50%) – Will require travel to field sites primarily within the Alabama Power Company footprint and may include anywhere in the continental US.

WORK LOCATION

  • Position will be based out of Birmingham, AL, however candidates living outside of the area may be considered with the expectation that they could successfully telework and would be willing to travel to work and/or field location on a routine (to be determined) and as-needed basis.

  • These positions will require a mix of both field and office work.

  • Some office work can be performed remotely (telework/work from home).

  • Relocation assistance will be considered, if the successful candidate(s) does not already live within a reasonable commute distance.

POSITION SUMMARY

Projects West is responsible for assisting Southern Company’s generating companies with professional project and construction management services for capital and large retrofit projects in the western production group.

This position will provide project execution oversight for a portfolio of APC Energy Services developed and owned projects that have been sold to customers, fully accountable for safety, scope, schedule, budget, and quality performance. This position will work closely with both the Development and Implementation Managers within APC Energy Services, giving construction and execution input to projects in development and providing oversight of projects being implemented. This Project Manager will supervise multiple field-based project leads and coordinators, a mix of full time, vendor service provider, and supplemental construction professionals.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Project execution management oversight for a portfolio of projects located at APC customer sites.

  • Accountable for project safety, scope, schedule, cost, and quality performance

  • Develop staffing plans for new projects and supervise field-based construction professionals.

  • Proactively manage contract change

  • Develop reports and assist in reviewing and editing technical and commercial documents.

  • Build relationships with key contractors and vendors.

  • Participate in the development of engineering, construction, and major equipment contracts.

  • Perform general duties related to monthly reporting, schedule reviews, and cost tracking.

  • Prepare presentations and data requests for meetings and other requirements.

  • Develop meeting agendas, facilitate project meetings and discussions, and provide status updates to management.

  • Assist in reviewing cost reports and contractor/vendor invoices to validate accuracy.

  • Represent APC Energy Services in meetings and at customer sites as necessary.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering, applied science, or another related field strongly preferred.

  • Experience in one or more of the following areas is beneficial: design, asset development, construction management, and project management.

  • Project Management Professional is a plus.

  • The ability to build strong working relationships with internal departments and customers.

  • Proven analytical, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills

  • Active learner and self-starter

  • Must be able to think creatively and independently in the development of new solutions

  • Demonstrated ability to build consensus and effectively communicate complex topics

  • Project management abilities with proficiency in prioritizing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to interact with APC customers in a professional and tactful manner.
