This position will be located at the Energy Center in Birmingham, AL


Structuring and Analysis supports Commercial Operations and Planning, Southern Wholesale Energy (SWE) and operating companies (Customers) by providing solutions to complex problems through cutting edge analytics.

This position is responsible for supporting Customers through deal structuring, production cost modeling, risk analysis, regression modeling, custom tool development and data analytics/visualization solutions.


  • Perform robust quantitative analyses for our Customers that:

  • Provide accurate forecasts to that lead to a competitive advantage in the market place

  • Capture the risk of commercial activity utilizing statistical and production cost models

  • Develop strategies to maximize return while mitigating risk using both standard and complex market instruments

  • Lead the development of new tools to solve ever-changing problems in a complex industry

  • Leverage data and data visualization to inform strategy and decision-making

  • Evaluate operational and market data to identify opportunities for optimization to create incremental value for the business



  • A degree in an analytical field is required. Some examples include, but are not limited to, quantitative finance, economics, mathematics, statistics, computer science, engineering.

  • An advanced degree in these areas or an MBA is highly desirable.


  • Demonstrated ability or training in higher-level mathematics including statistics and optimization techniques

  • Proficiency with standard business and analytical software

  • Proficiency with mathematical or statistical software packages such as Visual Basic, MATLAB, and R

  • Proficiency with SQL and/or programming languages, such as Python and C

  • Experience with production cost models (e.g. Aurora, PROMOD, PLEXOS)

  • Understanding and working knowledge of data modeling, data integration and visualization techniques

  • Experience with data management techniques to access, integrate, format, govern, analyze and visualize data from multiple internal and external sources

  • Comprehensive consulting skills with proven ability to work with and influence others

  • Ability to build productive relationships and work in a fast-paced, competitive environment while handling multiple assignments
