The Business Continuity / Crisis Management Analyst will be a member of the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) organization and will serve as a subject matter expert in business continuity and resiliency for Southern Company. The Company’s enterprise-wide program, internally referred to as Business Assurance, is charged with ensuring Southern Company and its subsidiaries are prepared to effectively respond to and recover from a disruption to the business. This position will be the lead analyst for Business Assurance owned systems in addition to supporting enterprise-wide governance, continuity planning, and crisis management activities. This position will be expected to display a high degree of innovation with the upcoming implementations of new mass notification system and situational awareness tool in order to drive the development of an industry leading program. The successful candidate will work closely with other members of the Business Assurance team and Company leadership to advance program initiatives, understand business critical functions and ensure appropriate mitigations are in place.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop expertise in the maintenance, administration, vendor management, and use of business continuity and crisis management technologies (business continuity management system, mass notification system, crisis management apps, and program website)

  • Support the implementation and lead the development and administration of ongoing support model for a new enterprise-wide mass notification system beginning in Q1 2019

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for questions regarding Business Assurance owned systems

  • Act as a change agent to ensure continued program advancement and alignment with program strategy

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on the development, maintenance, and testing of business continuity plans across Southern Company

  • Coordinate with key stakeholders in partner organizations including executive leadership to accomplish business continuity and/or crisis management initiatives

  • Support the development and facilitation of exercises of various scales to test robustness of emergency response, crisis management, and/or business continuity plans

  • Participate in and assess exercises including developing after-action reports

  • Conduct business impact analyses on critical functions across Southern Company

  • Assist business units in understanding critical business processes and dependencies

  • Assist in the development and implementation of training and education initiatives for employees ranging from executive to staff level

  • Maintain and enhance reporting metrics to continually assess program status and progression for senior leadership

  • Provide support to leadership during incidents that have potential impacts beyond a local level

  • Lead ad hoc business continuity and/or crisis management related projects as needed

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • 2-3 years minimum related work experience preferred

  • Must possess a strong technical aptitude to quickly learn new technologies and/or have experience supporting or serving as subject matter expert for business owned systems

  • Business continuity planning and/or project management experience with certifications preferred

  • Experience in one or more areas preferred: continuity planning, disaster recovery, crisis management, systems support, risk management, threat identification and mitigation, corporate compliance

  • Excellent interpersonal, consulting, and communication skills required to engage, build credibility, and maintain relationships with individuals at all organizational levels

  • Ability to facilitate problem solving sessions and table-top exercises with key business representatives and decision makers

  • Experience working in a matrix organization and on cross-functional projects or initiatives a plus

  • Broad understanding of risk management frameworks and principles a plus

  • Basic company and energy/utility knowledge a plus

  • Strong analytical skills with ability to identify and document detailed business requirements

  • Proven ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments

  • Established critical thinking skills with ability to link strategic and tactical implications

  • Computer skills: MS Office Suite; must also possess strong technical aptitude to quickly learn new technologies

  • Up to 20% travel and potential after-hour/on-call support required
