Description

The CAD Technician is responsible for performing CAD mapping for Land Engineering projects in support of SCS Engineering and Power Generation, SCS Transmission Line & Substation Design, GPC Environmental and Natural Resources and other customers. The CAD Technician possesses a high level of mapping skill, expertise and knowledge. The CAD Technician will work to ensure Land Engineering projects are completed accurately and in a timely manner.

The position will be located in Atlanta, GA, at the Georgia Power Corporate Headquarters.

Education Requirements

  • High school degree, required

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience using computer aided drafting & design (CADD) related to land surveying and/or civil engineering

  • Working knowledge and use of AutoCAD Civil 3D, required

  • Working knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), required

  • Field land surveying experience, a plus

  • Use of Carlson Field & Office software, a plus

  • Global Positioning System (GPS) experience, a plus

  • Experience using LiDAR (Light Detection & Ranging) data and/or laser scanning data, a plus

  • Microstation experience, a plus

  • Strong computer skills including MS Word, MS Outlook, MS Excel and PC file folder systems, required.Ability to use MS Access, a plus.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Working knowledge of computer aided drafting and design (CADD) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software which focuses on surveying and/or civil engineering

  • Ability to read and understand surveying and property documents and drawings to be used in resolving boundary line issues.

  • Understanding of research needs in support of field survey (GPC Land Records research, courthouse research, etc.)

  • Knowledge of the various survey coordinate datums and projection systems and their differences

  • Skill to function as part of a team and to maintain a positive attitude in challenging situations

  • Capacity to establish client relationships and to focus on the needs of the client

  • Schedule oriented with ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

  • Ability to work multiple projects simultaneously

  • Excellent communication skills (written & verbal)

Job Duties:

  • Perform CAD mapping for Land Engineering projects

  • Complete mapping projects accurately and in a timely manner

  • Process field survey data to prepare Land Engineering deliverables (boundary, topo, volumetric, hydrographic, route, etc.)

  • Read and interpret deeds, plats and other property record information to be used in resolving boundary line issue

  • Understand project requirements and ensure project schedules are met

  • Support field surveying activities in an appropriate manner that assists in meeting client expectations

  • Be available for answering client questions and providing client support

  • Communicate project schedules by providing regular updates to the Land Engineering Supervisors and Land Engineering Coordinators

  • Provide information to update progress schedules

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid Georgia driver’s license, required

  • AutoCAD Civil 3D certification (by Autodesk), a plus

Other Job Requirements:

  • Participation on storm evaluation and restoration teams (if necessary).

  • Must live within a reasonable commuting distance to Downtown Atlanta or quickly relocate to within a reasonable commuting distance to Downtown Atlanta at own expense.
