CCR Dewatering Program Manager
This is a hybrid position, remote, and office & the expectation is that this new team member should have a strong presence on assigned jobsites, at minimum weekly (approximately 50% travel with almost all being to job sites or in GA).

JOB SUMMARY
This position reports directly to the CCR PMO Strategy and Oversight Manager and is primarily responsible for oversight and direction of CCR Dewatering strategy as well as additional water treatment needs that fall under CCR ARO responsibility. This position will support both the CCR and Water & Natural Resources Permitting team to implement Georgia Power’s Dewatering Program consistently at each individual site. The successful candidate will manage several multi-year CCR Dewatering Projects in Georgia Power’s ash pond closure program, facilitate major project decisions, ensure measures to minimize risks are incorporated during the dewatering process as well as during Post Closure Care, and ensure activities are coordinated with internal support organizations such as Technical Shared Services (Projects, Engineering and Environmental Solutions) and third-party engineering consultants, etc. These projects range in cost from tens of millions to hundreds of millions of dollars.
This position will ensure dewatering compliance requirements are communicated, implemented, measured, and completed at each site and promote compliance and operational consistency across sites. These responsibilities include quality assurance and quality control at each site for the dewatering treatment vendor and equipment, oversight of the 3 rd party Dewatering Sampling contractor for compliance samples, assistance in the development of reports and metrics to ensure dewatering standards and requirements are being met and documented, and technical guidance relating to dewatering needs.
This position will also provide project management support for multiple projects with multiple contractors, technical oversight and input for data quality, risk management, and error free data reporting.
This role is responsible for evaluating issues and coordinating the development of effective preventative action solutions that maximize compliance and minimize the impact to the company’s operations, ensure project experiences and best practices are communicated for the benefit of all projects, optimize return for the investment, and reduce risk in all aspects of the program.
This position will be responsible for ensuring proper controls are in place, are being consistently implemented throughout the program, and that facilities are properly managed and maintained. This person will coordinate and conduct site reviews and audits with project teams, Technical Shared Services, and Generation. While primarily an individual contributor, this position is expected to direct, coordinate, and oversee activities necessary to complete his / her responsibilities with minimal supervision. This includes supporting the dewatering contract strategy and contracting for individual projects.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills )
Education & Job Experience:
BS or BA degree in Engineering or a Science related field required (i.e. chemical engineering, geology, biology, chemistry, environmental science, etc.)
Experience with project management principles and techniques; Professional accreditations and certifications a plus
Minimum 10 years’ experience in wastewater treatment operations or similar experience in water treatment design
Georgia Certification for Wastewater Treatment Operator or ability to obtain within one year preferred
Experience in interpreting and implementing compliance programs consistent with environmental regulations
Experience with state and federal NPDES and/or Georgia’s Solid Waste regulations preferred
Experienced in water/wastewater sampling and laboratory methods
Project and contract management experience required; experience with contract administration on plant sites required
Experience with coal generation, coal combustion residuals management, general environmental, engineering, project controls, and quality control
Ability to understand or experience with engineering principles, electric operating practices, construction practices, CCR regulations, budgeting, scheduling, contracts, and general business practices
Strong analytical skills to evaluate progress, identify problem areas, evaluate alternatives and determine viable solutions
Experience analyzing, re-projecting, and controlling project costs over time

Understand the importance of Georgia Power’s CCR projects and Dewatering Program from an external perspective and ability/willingness to coordinate with CCR projects support organizations such as EA Water and Natural Resources group, Legal, Corporate Communications, Accounting, Supply Chain, Regulatory Affairs, SCS, etc.
Understand and further develop the Dewatering Guidelines Operational QC and QA checks and promote consistency with the Guidelines
Working knowledge of EQuIS Dewatering Dashboard-Power BI which contains all QA and QC data for site dewatering lab results
As the Contract Coordinator, they will ensure onsite sampling methods are being conducted correctly, timely, and in accordance with the GPC Dewatering Guidelines for both the WTP contractor and the 3 rd Party Dewatering Sampling Contractor.
Coordinate monthly reviews of sampling results and trends with SCS Environmental Solutions and Georgia Power Environmental Affairs Water group
Lead/conduct regular spot checks of each dewatering facility in Georgia as needed and in addition to quarterly inspections
Demonstrated knowledge of applicable environmental laws and regulations
Strong analytical skills to evaluate progress, identify problem areas, evaluate alternatives and determine viable solutions
Ability to resolve conflict between individuals and functional areas
Attention to detail and following processes and procedures
Ability to synthesize technical information and communicate in a manner suitable for technical and non-technical personnel
Ability to work with limited supervision and maintain a flexible schedule which may include non-traditional hours and travel
Ability to interface with contractors, engineering and permitting firms, vendors and other parties connected with the program and projects
Ability to provide accurate budget projections
Ability to work through others to achieve desired business results
Excellent computer skills including all Microsoft Office applications; knowledge in use of database programs a plus
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Continue the development, coordination, and oversight of the GPC Dewatering Compliance Strategy which includes the Dewatering Guidelines used to address the CCR Program needs including:
Implementation and further development of an internal review/audit process
Development of monthly/quarterly status update reports, metrics, and dashboards
Ensure all requirements are met for CCR Projects to ensure compliance, to ensure records are properly maintained, and to ensure reporting metrics are met consistently
Ensure Dewatering and QAQC processes are modernized, efficient, and adaptable for long-term projects
Contract Coordinator of GPC chosen 3 rd Party Dewatering Sampling Contractor or coordinate oversight with SCS Engineering and Construction Services
Ensure any needed corrective actions to mitigate dewatering process issues are implemented timely and documented
Consult with individuals and organizations within and external to Southern to track industry trends, benchmark, and assess new technologies
Support any internal or external audits or governance reviews performed on the program/projects
Travel Requirements
Travel within the state including quarterly inspections coordinated with Environmental Solutions
Travel expectations may be up to approximately 50% depending on specific site needs
This position has been identified as a role that will require the use of a Georgia Power fleet vehicle. The following will be required if you are selected for this position:
Must have at least one year of verifiable driving experience (Must hold a valid driver’s license for the class vehicle to be operated. Driving permits are not typically considered a valid driver’s license).
Must have no revocation of driving privileges within the 36 months prior to application, no convictions of major traffic violations (DUI, hit and run, reckless driving, etc.) within the 12 months prior to application, or any pending charges for a major traffic violation at the time of application.
