ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYST/SPECIALIST/ENGINEER, AIR MONITORING AND TESTING

This position location will be in Atlanta, GA. Office location is negotiable with the Georgia Power footprint.

Relocation assistance MAY be available for this position IF needed and IF you qualify.

JOB SUMMARY: The position will be responsible for establishing, enhancing, and/or maintaining Air Emissions Testing capabilities within the Georgia Power Air Monitoring and Testing organization, and provide testing services for Georgia Power and Southern Power generation facilities, with an emphasis on safety and quality. The individual will serve in a variety of testing-related roles, including overseeing compliance testing programs ensuring Georgia Power and Southern Power receive quality, defensible data which meets or exceeds the State or Federal requirements; serving as project manager, test team member, quality manager, and/or technical director; reviewing, documenting, maintaining, developing, and/or enhancing testing processes and equipment; serving as a subject matter expert on emissions testing and measurement (both methods and compliance requirements) to constructively inform permit applications and air quality policy.

The individual may also provide quality testing support to any Georgia Power and Southern Power generation facilities for project support, turbine tuning, vendor guarantees, research applications, or other testing activities.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: ( Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills)

  • BS in Engineering, Science, Environmental Studies, or related field preferred, or equivalent job experience in stack/emissions testing will be considered.

  • At least 5 years previous emission testing experience preferred with a minimum of 3 years’ experience as the Project or Test Team Leader to include emission testing in the Utility Industry performing stack emissions testing as required by 40 CFR Part 75, and Part 60 to demonstrate compliance with State and Federal requirements .

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds using ergonomic practices

  • Must have a safe driving record with ability to obtain a CMV license

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Skills should include development of test plans, project costs, regulatory interface, and report writing/technical review.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Detailed knowledge of test methods, related laboratory analytical methods, emissions testing-related regulations, and equipment and instrumentation

  • Strong troubleshooting abilities to maintain and repair test equipment

  • Strong data analytics skills and ability to use data analysis tools, such as Excel

  • The individual must have current QSTI Qualification for test groups 1 and 3, or 5, or must be willing to obtain the QSTI certification upon 3 months of employment. QSTI Qualification for test groups 2 and 4 are preferred but not required.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Experience in troubleshooting and maintaining complex analytical systems used for emission sampling and data handling

  • Tolerance for working at elevation for extended periods of time.

  • Personnel and practical management skills.

  • Coordinate equipment and personnel mobilization with test team members and facility contacts.

  • Complete test programs including the preparation and review of test plans and emission test reports which meet all required QA and mandated reference method and performance specification criteria.

  • Interface with State and Federal auditors.

  • Work closely with Georgia Power Air team members.

  • Coordinate with Plant Operations and Fleet to enable test program schedules.
