Financial Analyst Job Family – Forecasting and Analysis

Excellent opportunity for achievement and responsibility for work that has significant financial impact and value for Southern Company Gas and its retail marketing company that operates in multiple states. This posting is for one position at level 2-5 depending on successful applicant’s experience level. The Forecasting and Analysis department supports Southstar’s operations by developing financial forecasts that align with the company’s strategic objectives and providing accurate actionable analysis and reporting to help with maximizing profitability. The Financial Analyst reports directly to the Manager, Forecasting and Analysis.

Job Responsibilities

• Supports business areas in plan creation (budgets, forecasts and strategic)

• Provides business area value added analysis and reporting (monthly variance reporting, trending, projections, presentations and ad-hoc analysis) to support business decision makers

• Works with business area leaders to achieve desired results

• Provides support for journal entries to close the books

• Supports business area needs (non-budget/finance)

• Analyzes financial and non-financial data to help drive business decisions

• Articulates results, variances and key drivers effectively

• Demonstrates knowledge of the business and industry in analyses

• Updates scenario models

• Develops recommendations and alternatives to meet objectives

• Collaborates with business area to understand trends and initiatives (current and future)

• Builds effective relationships with business area(s) supported

• Communicates effectively with all levels of the business area supported

• Influences business decisions by sharing analyses and expertise

• Supports business user needs for FP&A system tools and templates

• Monitors results versus plan and works with business leaders to achieve desired results

• Identifies process and/or profit improvements

• Significantly greater leadership responsibility and opportunity for level 4 or 5 Analyst.

• General knowledge of accounting

Level 2:

Education and Experience

Required:

BA/BS Degree in Business, Accounting or Finance (or comparable degree)

Preferred:

Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

MBA

Related Work Experience:

Required:

Up to 2 years experience performing financial analysis, planning, and management reporting

Experience working with senior executives on an individual and team basis

Preferred:

Utility, natural gas or other energy industry experience

Level 3:

Education and Experience

Required:

BA/BS Degree in Business, Accounting or Finance (or comparable degree)

Preferred:

Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

MBA

Related Work Experience:

Required:

2-5 years experience performing financial analysis, planning, and management reporting

Preferred:

Utility, natural gas or other energy industry experience

Level 4:

Education and Experience

Required:

BA/BS Degree in Business, Accounting or Finance (or comparable degree)

Preferred:

Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

MBA

Related Work Experience:

Required:

5-7 years experience performing financial analysis, planning, and management reporting

Preferred:

Utility, natural gas or other energy industry experience

Level 5:

Education and Experience

Required:

Related Work Experience:

Required:

7 years experience performing financial analysis, planning, and management reporting
