Financial Reporting Manager
Lead the financial reporting for Southern Company Gas and subsidiary companies.
Support the efforts of both the Assistant Controller and the SVP & GAS Comptroller.
Support the efforts of Southern Company Services Financial Reporting.
Representative Duties and Responsibilities:
Create and maintain proper disclosure controls to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
Lead the compilation, and support the filing, of annual, quarterly, and other periodic financial reports (primarily on Forms 10-K and 10-Q).
Support the Disclosure Committee of Southern Company Gas under Sarbanes-Oxley 404, including the quarterly due diligence interviews, to ensure timely and accurate filing of material information.
Lead the external financial reporting for subsidiary companies, including annual audited and quarterly unaudited financial statements.
Lead the annual reporting on Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Form 2 and related filings for all-natural gas utilities.
Lead the annual reporting for rider audits, agreed upon procedure letters and other required reports.
Support the annual audits, quarterly reviews and other reports by external auditors.
Support the monthly internal reporting process.
Act as liaison and contact for internal and external auditors.
Support staff selection, development, and retention.
Prepare whitepapers and/or memoranda on various topics.
Participate on special projects.
Education and Experience:
BA/BS in accounting, finance, or a related field.
10 years of progressive accounting and financial reporting experience.
Prior financial reporting experience and proficiency in SEC reporting requirements.
Working knowledge of regulated utility/natural gas industry.
Equivalent academic education and experience
Analytical and documentation skills.
Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP and SEC regulations (1933 and 1934 act).
Well-developed professional expertise and decision-making ability.
Interpersonal skills, including excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to independently and creatively solve problems.
Ability to work well in a team environment.
MS Excel – intermediate experience.
MS Word – intermediate experience.

- Keyboarding and viewing reports on-line – 90% (at peak times of the year; approximately 7 months).
