Forecasting Manager



The purpose of this position is to ensure that the development and execution of the supply and demand resource plan for our utility companies are performed in a timely, accurate and collaborative manner. This is a shared service provider role focused on conducting comprehensive analysis to create a utility supply and demand forecast plan for implementation at the service center level; adjusting and refining the plan as required; developing operational monitoring and tracking reports; performing detailed analysis and recommending supply related sourcing strategies to operations; collaborating with operational, resource management and budget leaders to identify and resolve forecast/budget discrepancies; maintaining and preparing related-performance metrics; and working with scheduling and budgeting to ensure forecast execution and accuracy.

This position could be in Atlanta, GA or Naperville, IL


Functional Expertise:

  • Responsible for coordinating the data gathering and preparation of operational supply and demand activities from disparate systems to ensure accurate and timely resource management forecasts to support utility operational resource planning, scheduling and budgeting.

  • Responsible for conducting comprehensive analysis and interpreting operational data to recommend and adjust supply and demand forecast assumptions and resultant plans for implementation at the utility service center level and to develop optimal supply and related sourcing recommendations by work types to support the timely completion of service and compliance-related activities.

  • Responsible for developing, maintaining and managing utility service center and enterprise level demand and supply-related forecast performance metrics to ensure resource management and operations can effectively plan, monitor and execute service and compliance-related activities.

  • Responsible for developing, evaluating and recommending new methods, tools, and software to provide more accurate and usable analysis to allow company decision makers to better assess strategic business opportunities and challenges.

Business Acumen:

  • Organizes and plans the coordination of initial and revisions of the utility resource management forecast through collaboration with operational leaders, scheduling and budgeting to ensure forecasts are completed in accordance with specific operating, planning, budget and scheduling application requirements.

  • Consults and informs utility operational leaders, budgeting and resource management personnel in the routine and non-routine analysis of supply alternatives, demand opportunities/issues and changes to the resource management forecast to ensure appropriate budgeting and optimal planning and allocation of resources.

  • Organizes and collaborates with utility operational leaders and resource management on identifying and developing initial assumptions and revisions to supply and demand forecasts to ensure accurate resource plans for scheduling and completing service and compliance related activities.

  • Analyzes and interprets trends, variances and discrepancies in supply and demand forecasts to ensure timely communication and optimal supply/sourcing actions by utility operating and scheduling personnel for completing service and compliance related activities in accordance with service level agreements and regulatory deadlines; and for implementing and/or researching additional demand activities into the resource management forecast.


  • Engages and influences utility operating and scheduling personnel on the appropriate levels of resources and/or optimal sourcing alternatives for completing service and compliance related activities; and engages with training supervisors to identify and remedy supply and skill gaps impeding the ability for operations to meet volume demand.

  • Engages and coordinates with utility operating, scheduling and budgeting personnel to ensure accurate costing and tracking of supply and related resource alternatives in operating budgets.

  • Builds and maintains credibility with utility operations, scheduling, budgeting and leadership through the timely preparation and distribution of supply and demand-related forecast metric reports and compliance schedules.

  • Engages with utility operations, scheduling and budgeting to bring transparency to the supply and demand resource management forecast.

Driving Results:

  • Executes, monitors and ensures utility resource management forecast plans are completed timely and accurately to ensure cost effective scheduling and optimal use of resources in performing service and compliance-related activities.

  • Executes and ensures that utility resource management forecast metric reporting is completed timely and accurately to ensure visibility of performance and progress of service and compliance related activities against related plans.

  • Directs, monitors and ensures utility resource management forecasts are developed and periodically updated with current and/or anticipated operational assumptions to ensure scheduling and planning of resources to complete service and compliance-related activities are in-line with current operating environment.

  • Ensures utility resource management forecast plan meets business unit expectations and requirements for supporting budget development of supply and related resource alternatives, planning of demand activities and scheduling of supply resources for service and compliance activities.


Education, Certifications/Licenses:


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work-related experience


  • Master’s degree

Related Work Experience:


  • 7-10 years in utility operations or direct support role


  • 2-3 years of experience in operational resource forecasting and/or budgeting.

Specific Skills & Knowledge:


  • MS Office Suite or equivalent advanced proficiency

  • PeopleSoft Financial and Human Resources system proficiency

  • Strong personal computer skills

  • Strong organizational, customer service, planning, analytical and communication skills

  • Strong change management, critical thinking and problem-solving skills

  • Field operational knowledge in distribution service and compliance-related activities


  • Knowledge of forecasting, field work scheduling and operating system familiarity
