CRITICAL TECHNOLOGY FACILTIES - TECHNOLOGY INFRASTRUCTURE ENGINEERING

SCOPE:

The TECHNOLOGY INFRASTRUCTURE ENGINEERING (TIE) team is responsible for strategic planning, engineering, construction, implementation and operational oversight for Southern Company’s Technology Organization telecommunications facilities. This includes overall facility integrity, power management (utility switchgear, emergency generator, UPS, DC plant systems), surge suppression, heat rejection, site telemetry, equipment installation standards, telecom tower engineering & maintenance as well as land management. In addition, the TIE team provides engineering support as needed for Southern Company’s Data Centers – with a focus on telecom interface rooms and associated ancillary equipment.

JOB SUMMARY: The TECHNOLOGY INFRASTRUCTURE ENGINEERING (TIE) Infrastructure Analyst partners with the engineering team to coordinate and implement TIE engineered solutions in the field at both telecom and computer room facilities. This role is primarily responsible for coordinating the installation resources (both internal and external) for telecom facility and ancillary projects, providing pre-engineering field assistance, construction coordination, updating documentation, coordinating maintenance and providing oversight of Backup Power Systems (Generators, UPSs, DC Power Plant) and telemetry systems. Secondarily, this position will support the Data Center (s) Facility Infrastructure Analyst with specifically identified projects.

JOB SPECIFICS: This particular IT Infrastructure Analyst role will be based in the Atlanta / North Ga area to support telecom facilities in the Georgia area primarily, but will also be expected to support, as needed, facilities in the Alabama and Mississippi areas as well as occasional support of facilities across Southern’s “national” footprint --- examples – Naperville Ill and Washington DC.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education / Experience:

  • Two-year degree in a related technology or industrial field with 6+ years equivalent experience is required.

OR

  • Four-year degree in a related technology or industrial field with 4+ years equivalent experience is required.

OR

  • Eight years proven experience in a related technology or industrial field is required.

  • Four years minimum experience with telecom DC power systems, computer room UPS systems, generator and transfer switches is preferred.

  • General Knowledge of NFPA70 code requirements

  • Proven track record in support of problem resolution and project implementation is expected

Technical / Leadership skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of Computer Room UPS systems

  • In-depth knowledge of Telecom DC Power Plant Systems, Emergency Generators, Automatic Transfer Switches and troubleshooting techniques

  • Knowledge of structured fiber optic and copper cable standards, management and utilization

  • Very high emphasis on leadership and planning. Must be able to look ahead be proactive.

  • Ability to analyze information from multiple sources for complex problem resolution

  • Ability to design / engineer infrastructure modifications / additions from a field perspective

  • Ability to organize tasks and coordinate various employees, vendor / contractors, and customers / partners to meet project goals

  • Ability to work independently, prioritizing major tasks by overall impact to the company

  • Ability to arrive at cost effective solutions in support of outages and projects

  • Ability to communicate and work with all levels of management, vendors, and other internal and external groups and customers

  • Ability to effectively lead meetings, train personnel, and make presentations

  • Understand/achieve business, Technology Organization, and departmental goals, strategies, and plans

  • Ensure full compliance NEC/NESC and local code requirements

  • Ability to effectively utilize standard Company computing applications (i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)

  • Ability to appropriately utilize documentation tools as required by specific job (CAD, VISIO, etc.)

WORK LOCATION:

This job is posted at the Georgia Power Company Corporate Headquarters at 241 Ralph McGill Boulevard, Atlanta Ga. Actual primary work location is negotiable, but is expected to be in the Metro Atlanta or North Georgia area.

The Infrastructure Analyst job requires the ability to drive long distances occasionally, travel overnight, be subject to 24x7 call out, work shifts greater than 8 hrs, lift / carry items up to approx. 75 lbs, climb stairs / ladders, and work in areas requiring specific safety measures such as working in tight spaces, protecting against electrical hazards and working at elevated heights.

This position has been identified as a role that will require the use of a Georgia Power fleet vehicle. The following will be required if you are selected for this position:

  • Must have at least one year of verifiable driving experience (Must hold a valid driver’s license for the class vehicle to be operated. Driving permits are not typically considered a valid driver’s license).

  • Must have no revocation of driving privileges within the 36 months prior to application, no convictions of major traffic violations (DUI, hit and run, reckless driving, etc.) within the 12 months prior to application, or any pending charges for a major traffic violation at the time of application.

  • Must consent to a continuous monitoring of your Motor Vehicle Record
