Land Engineering Manager
This position exists to manage and lead an organization of approximately 31 employees that perform surveying, mapping, civil engineering activities that support construction and operational activities for Georgia Power. These activities are integral to the company’s need to acquire, protect, and manage real property assets in a manner that enhances the Company’s image and influence.
College Degree with experience in the energy or real estate industries preferred.
Knowledge of the Company’s organization structure and its dynamics to provide direction to Land Engineering supervisors and employees
Proven leadership competencies (e.g., business acumen and execution, effective communication, organizational savvy, leading people)
Strong management skills that optimize the technical quality and productivity through the direction and motivation of its employees, with the ability to build effective teams and develop leaders
Ability to promote a caring safety culture where employees’ safety is of greatest importance
Experience managing a technical workforce and creating an open, trusting and inclusive environment with employees who are informed, engaged and empowered.
Comprehensive knowledge of geographic surveying, mapping and data management systems, and how this information supports E&NR and Operations.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with employees, clients, executive management, peers and other corporate organizations
General knowledge of the energy industry and Southern Company business processes
General budgeting, financial management and general accounting procedure compliance experience
MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operational Activities The survey, mapping and civil sections are responsible for the surveying, civil design, and mapping of all existing properties and facilities, and all properties to be acquired by the company, including but not limited to, transmission and distribution rights of way, substations, generating plant sites, reservoirs, dams etc.
Internal Coordination Coordinates with Generation, Transmission and Distribution and other departments requiring Land Engineering services to meet project schedules and deadlines. Communicates project status for Land Engineering projects to stakeholders. Provides customer service focus to employees to ensure that accurate information and services are provided to internal and external customers.
Specialized Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of general surveying in support of operations; specialized surveying and engineering in support of Transmission Line & Substation Design and Construction, Acquisition, Generation/ Solar sites, Ash Ponds, Hydro & Nuclear Facilities, Distribution design and construction. Knowledge of GIS and Technology tools and systems to manage geospatial data and databases in support of Land activities and assets.
External risk exposure management: protection of property assets from third party encroachment, protection of land rights, protection and monitoring of assets: electric lines, substations and generating plants, through research, surveying and technology
COMPLIANCE - Ensure compliance with all laws and regulations, Company policies, department policies/procedures and Land Engineering guidelines. Ensure Land Engineering support of Capital Projects is in compliance with Title 22 requirements. Ensure coordination and communication with Legal Services on property surveying and mapping activities.
FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT – Effectively utilize our financial resources so that all budgets are managed in accordance with the authorized funding level. Support Supplier Diversity Goal in competitive bids and contracted work to complete Land Engineering activities. In partnership with GPC Contract Management, effectively manage contract labor within guidelines and adjust as necessary to maximize cost efficiency in workload requirements.
PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT – Manage employee performance on a daily basis by setting and establishing clear expectations, providing timely feedback, and ensuring employee accountability. Develop a flexible workforce plan to address workforce and workload changes. Provide employee development and training opportunities to maximize each employee’s potential in both current and future roles. Ensure compliance with the Company’s job selection process.
