The purpose of this position is to oversee and manage the on-boarding of all new residential, commercial, and industrial customers to the utility’s distribution system, promote top-line growth and to assist and support the existing customer base in adding incremental load to the system or modifying existing utility infrastructure on customer property in the most optimal manner possible. The individual in this role will work with internal and external parties to ensure that we develop and maintain consistent and supportive customer facing opportunities.

Responsible for managing and motivating all residential, commercial and industrial sales personnel and functions. Insuring sales goals are met and provides coaching to direct reports.

Functional Expertise:

  • Manages the customer on-boarding experience to ensure all customers are extended service in as timely and cost-effective manner as possible.

  • Developing, administering and implementing the Company’s sales programs in order to maximize sales and revenue

  • from the residential, commercial and industrial market segments.

  • Prepares, monitors and executes on departmental O&M and Capital New Business budgets

  • Analyzes and interprets key new business metrics

  • Providing detailed monthly reporting on margin and meters as related to goals.

  • Provides the primary interface between the residential, commercial and industrial sales teams and the Service Centers

  • and Marketing along with other Company departments.

  • Provides coaching for field sales employees.

Business Acumen:

  • Balances external stakeholder (customer, regulatory agency, permitting jurisdiction, etc.) needs with company goals and objectives to reach a favorable resolution to stakeholder issues and/or concerns.

  • Consults with engineering, construction, and operations resources on constructability timelines of new and revision projects generated by the customer.

  • Works with the Manager of Construction to formulate the most efficient routing of new gas mains and services to serve new residential, commercial, and industrial developments

  • Proposes alternative gas main and service designs for system reliability and cost effectiveness

Engagement :

  • Manages staff selection and performance development through coaching and training opportunities.

  • Presents departmental performance and reports on the progression of major projects to key internal stakeholders at the director and/or executive level

Driving Results:

  • Establishes and monitors work goals that are consistent with the department’s and corporation’s overall strategy

  • Drives results through performance management of staff including setting expectations, evaluating results and taking corrective action as needed

  • Achieves high performance in a matrix environment by effectively managing relationships with other business organizations

  • Develop and implement new processes and procedures resulting from “lessons learned” meetings and “root cause” studies

Education and Experience:


  • Valid Georgia Driver’s license

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business administration or related field,

  • Three to five years of progressive management experience in residential and commercial sales or equivalent experience

Preferred :

  • Master’s degree


  • Equivalent academic education and experience

  • Knowledge - Must possess extensive knowledge of standard residential and commercial sales practices, trends and techniques used within general industry and specifically in the sales and marketing field. Must possess extensive knowledge of Company business practices for all areas of AGL Resources. Must have extensive knowledge of general management and business practices and techniques.

  • Communication Skills - Must be able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form with all levels of management, staff, customers, consultants, and developers. Must communicate in a professional manner and provide superior customer service to all who interface with AGL Resources. Must be able to manage employees by communicating effectively and developing the interpersonal skills of the sales force. Must be able to resolve communication issues between employees and the various departments that interact with the Residential and Commercial markets area.

  • Teamwork - Must demonstrate effective working relationships with all levels of employees and customers. Must cooperate with and offer assistance to others including senior management, customers, co-workers, and consultants. Must be able to develop and maintain a productive and self-supportive team. Must support and act for the long-term benefit of AGL Resources.

  • Analytical Skills - Must be able to manage and complete multiple high priority projects and activities with strict time sensitive deadlines. Must possess organizational skills required to manage staff and projects in an effective manner. Must be able to analyze financial reports and make recommendations to senior management. Must be able to analyze market trends and take a proactive approach in applying such trends.

  • Leadership - Must be able to manage projects and resources effectively and efficiently with support of other sales and marketing groups. Must be able to effectively motivate and lead sales staff toward Company goals that achieve or exceed revenue goals and provide superior results.

  • Innovation and Creativity - Must be able to demonstrate by example, how to develop and implement innovative programs designed to increase revenues, decrease expenses, ensure customer loyalty and establish Atlanta Gas Light Company as the leading provider of services for residential and commercial customers.
