Marketing Research Manager


The Marketing Research Manager is responsible for leading a team of researchers and analysts that support the research needs of the operating companies. This includes the management of the Customer Satisfaction reporting, analysis and readouts, primary and secondary research, and best practice sharing. This position makes data-driven recommendations to improve business performance and customer satisfaction. The Marketing Research Manager will be responsible for communicating the strategic insight to stakeholders at all levels of the organization.


  • A bachelor’s degree in Marketing Research, Sociology, Consumer Behavior, Analytics, Business, or a related field is required

  • A master’s degree in a related field and relevant industry certifications are a plus

  • 5 years of experience in client-facing role in marketing research, business intelligence, or consulting

  • 3 years of managerial experience is highly preferred

  • Proven leadership ability to hire, motivate, coach, set goals, plan, execution, and prioritize

  • Experience leading cross-functional teams to accomplish a variety of projects with aggressive timelines

  • Strong consulting skills to build positive client relationships across multiple operating companies and business units and at all levels of the organization, to earn trust of managers and executives

  • Strong communication skills to effectively convey insight about customers and markets; experience presenting insightful content internally and publicly

  • Track record of successfully designing and leading research initiatives to meet business objectives

  • Proficiency in B2B and B2C research methodologies, including qualitative and quantitative processes

  • Knowledge of statistics, analytics, and data quality

  • Experience with innovative research methods, platforms, and technologies

  • Familiarity with Qualtrics, Stats iQ, SPSS, PowerSource, and utility industry a plus

  • Ability to think strategically, innovatively, and creatively to identify opportunities for research and intelligence

  • Demonstrated ability to interpret information, synthesize multiple data sources, draw conclusions, recognize implications for the company, and make actionable recommendations to internal stakeholders

  • Experience managing third-party research vendors, including requests for proposals, scopes of work, cost negotiation, and effective resource planning


  • Lead a team of research professionals to design and implement comprehensive research programs for multiple functional areas (customer service, account management, compliance, corporate communications, external affairs, etc.) at various operating companies and business units (Alabama Power, Georgia Power, Mississippi Power, Southern Nuclear, Washington D.C. office, etc.)

  • Engage stakeholders at all levels of the organization to understand their research needs; proactively develop research proposals to help shape their strategies and initiatives

  • Ensure successful execution of customer satisfaction studies that are used as KPIs on the corporate pay for performance plan (PPP) for all employees

  • Strategically manage a portfolio of research projects; prioritize incoming requests; optimize budgets; assign employees to projects that leverage their strengths

  • Motivate and inspire team to achieve business objectives; set goals; enable career development

  • Establish and manage strategic vendor relationships

  • Grow external network of thought leaders to share best practices

  • Oversee implementation of research projects

  • Successfully communicate insight about customers and markets to all levels of management

  • Advocate for the customer-centric approach to product development, technology investment, rate design, communications, and service improvements

  • Champion the customer on cross-functional teams
