JOB SUMMARY:
Project Manager for Grid Transformation and Operational Risk will develop the metrics and mitigate Operational Risk related to operating Bulk Power System in presence of high penetrations of Inverter-Based Resources (IBRs), and Large Customer load growth, shape the Integrated Resource Planning (IRP) and generation development. They will work closely with the TCC Operations Planning and Renewables team, acting act as a liaison between Georgia Power and Integrated Transmission System (ITS) project management to prioritize and coordinate capital project outages. This individual should possess an in-depth understanding of the complexities of the bulk power system design, planning and operation, coupled with a proven track record of managing large-scale projects from conception to completion. The successful candidate will demonstrate an unwavering commitment to safety, reliability, and compliance, underpinning all project activities with these core values.
Project Manager must also exhibit excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of fostering a collaborative environment and driving consensus among diverse groups. JOB REQUIREMENTS: (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities )
Experience & Education Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree or Associate degree is required - Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering technology degree preferred.
5+ years of Transmission experience in three or more areas: Operations, Planning, Maintenance, Design, Construction, EMS, Operations Support, Protection & Control, Project Management, Resource Planning, Renewables.
Knowledge of modeling and power system analysis, T&D switching and clearance practices
Must meet all physical and cyber security requirements including participation in the Insider Threat Program.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Extensive knowledge of bulk power system planning and operations.
Deep understanding of the electric utility industry, especially in the development, design, and construction of generation facilities.
Basic knowledge and understanding of renewable energy resources, including solar generation, battery energy storage systems, and microgrids.
Understanding of the impact of high penetration Inverter-Based Resources (IBRs) on bulk power system operations.
Awareness of bulk power system operational risks, such as wide-area events, generation/load curtailment, and power quality issues.
Experience with Integrated Resource Planning (IRP) and Distributed Energy Resource (DER) development from initial siting through commercial operation date (COD).
Knowledge of project management processes for coordinating capital project outages.
Ability to develop and implement effective training programs and provide real-time support as a Subject Matter Expert (SME).
Effective communication skills with diverse stakeholders and the ability to build consensus across organizations.
Strong relationship-building and team development skills, including active listening, patient coaching, and fostering high-performing, inclusive teams.
Familiarity with transmission voltage systems (34.5kV and above) and construction practices.
Extensive experience with the development, design, and construction of Distributed Energy Resources.
Proven ability to work collaboratively with multi-discipline teams of engineers and analysts.
Effective project management skills, including managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines.
Ability to identify and articulate new project opportunities to clients and translate them into consulting services.
Ability to work effectively under pressure and tight deadlines, both on-site and in various work environments.

Proficiency in power flow and power system analysis software.
Ability to deal effectively with industry, government, and public contracts on project-related matters.

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operational Risk Management:
Develop and implement metrics to monitor and mitigate Bulk Electric System (BES) operational risks associated with high Inverter-Based Resource (IBR) penetrations and large load pockets.
Identify and address operational risks, including wide-area events, generation/load curtailments, physical and cyber threats, IT/Telecom threats, planned outage threats, power quality issues, and ramping/regulation/reserves.
Serve as the point of contact and Subject Matter Expert (SME) for operational input in resource planning and customer choice, from initial siting through commercial operation date (COD).
Shape IBR operating practices in collaboration with Georgia ITS and other operating companies.
- Strategic Planning and Coordination:
Conduct transmission system operation planning studies using Power Network Analysis (PNA) and Power System Simulator for Engineering (PSSE) tools to evaluate near term, one month out, and long-term clearances associated with maintenance and construction projects. Work closely with the prearrange team in the clearance review process.
Facilitate completion of major maintenance and construction projects on the Georgia ITS and coordinate modeling and analysis with neighboring utilities and the PCC.
Coordinate clearances supporting major maintenance and construction projects working closely with Project Management, generation plants, Distribution, major customers, ITS participants, PCC, and other stakeholders.
Shape Integrated Resource Plans (IRPs) and generation development strategies to reduce BES operational risk and optimize plant operation.
Collaborate with GPC and ITS project management teams to prioritize and coordinate capital project outages, ensuring alignment with system needs.
Address generation capacity challenges, customer commitments, capital maintenance, and other capital project outages.
Provide operational input and guidance to resource planning teams to ensure the integration of risk mitigation strategies.
- Team Leadership and Support:
Provide daily support to the System Operator by performing contingency modeling and analysis as needed and support restoration efforts during storms, Energy Emergency Alerts, and significant system events.
Provide leadership, training, coaching, and mentoring all direct reports to ensure success in technical and leadership competencies.
Lead and support cross-functional teams to enhance grid transformation and operational risk management.
Develop and implement training programs for operators and staff to ensure preparedness for operational challenges and risk management.
Facilitate knowledge sharing and best practices across teams to continuously improve grid transformation and operational risk management.
Provide continuous training to grow bench strength and build the team to perform independently and with sound judgement.
