Description

The responsibilities for the Property Accountant position. This position ensures property related transactions are accounted correctly and timely for internal and external reporting purposes. Activities include preparation of monthly journal entries; account reconciliations; support schedules; calculating depreciation expense and closing fixed asset within PowerPlan application; compliance with property related SOX-controls. This position is posted as part of a job family.

Job Responsibilities & Accountabilities by Competency

Business Execution:

•Record financial transactions via journal entries.

•Perform general ledger account reconciliations; analyze and research outstanding items/issues.

•Monitor reports/accounts/expenses; determine and make necessary adjustments.

•Work with customers (internal and external) to resolve problems; answer questions and provide recommendations.

•Generate standard and non-standard reports; analyzes data.

•Calculate, review, and analyze financial information relating to specialty area (e.g., general ledger, FERC ledger); analyze variances; use professional judgment and expertise to perform complex estimates and calculations.

•Monitor and analyze expenditures and balance sheet variances.

•Demonstrate ability to multi-task and prioritize.

•Independently and creatively solve problems.

•Provide support for quarterly audits

•Maintain property records in PowerPlan application:

Monthly tasks include calculating depreciation expense, closing fixed assets; updating work order status; retiring assets; adding locations and other updates as needed. Review administer and approve capital projects for accounting appropriateness Monitor capital charges to ensure adherence to company capitalization policy Serve as subject matter expert by providing accounting guidance to both accounting and non-accounting co-workers to resolve capital related transactions

•Assist internal customers with recommendations on recording transactions; explain the impact to the general ledger and financial statements.

Qualifications

Education, Certifications/Licenses:

Required:

•BA/BS degree in Accounting or Finance

Related Work Experience:

Required:

Grade 2: 1-3 years experience performing accounting activities.

Grade 3: 3-5 years public or utility accounting experience and/or 3-5 years experience performing complex accounting/financial transactions.

Grade 4: 6 years advanced accounting experience performing complex financial analysis and research.

Preferred:

•Ability to multi-task and hit the ground running.

•Natural gas or similar regulated industry experience.

•Plant Accounting experience a plus.

•PowerPlan experience

Specific Skills & Knowledge:

Required:

•Intermediate to Advance knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

•Demonstrated problem-solving abilities, including the ability to critically think and present new or creative solutions.

•Common ERP (e.g., Oracle, PeopleSoft, SAP etc.) and reporting knowledge/abilities.

•Skilled in using Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

•Strong organizational skills.

•Strong account reconciliation skills.

•Team player and with the ability to work independently.

•Ability to work in an organized, detailed manner under tight deadlines.

Travel Requirements:

•Infrequent Traveler (0-5% travel): The incumbent may be required to travel on a very limited basis. Trips may require air travel and/or overnight stay away from home for one or more nights.

Work Environment

•The incumbent works in an office environment. This will be a hybrid working environment with remote working 2 days per week.
