The PowerSecure Environmental Permitting and Compliance Engineer/Specialist - Service position is responsible for administering programs for PowerSecure Service Organization related to compliance with environmental laws, regulations, and permit requirements across different environmental medias. This is not an Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) position. Major job responsibilities include monitoring compliance status of both in permitting new sites/projects and existing permits/registrations primarily related to, but not limited to RCRA, Used Oil, SPCC, DOT Hazmat, Tier II and Waste Vendor Audit Program; developing compliance plans to address potential challenges related to compliance for various facilities, along with conducting periodic internal assessments; writing and maintain SPCC plans; interpreting regulations related to petroleum tanks and providing guidance on compliance requirements throughout the U.S. and Canada to support various business functions; assessing the compliance risks, cost, and schedule associated with potential projects; and interfacing with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies across the U.S. and Canada, and preparing, reviewing and submitting permit applications and various environmental compliance reports related to projects that are for both owned assets and customer owned assets. The program is involved in permitting and/or compliance in multiple states/cities/districts with varying rules and regulations. The successful candidate must have experience building compliance programs, along with managing permit and regulatory compliance in many states/regions with differing obligations. In addition, the candidate must be capable of managing and prioritizing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment including managing technical consultants and ensuring the environmental scope remains within budget.
Minimum Qualifications• Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, environmental science, chemistry, or other relevant scientific discipline • Minimum of 3-5 years’ work experience in the environmental permitting or compliance field with emphasis on regulatory and permit multi-media compliance• Prior experience in industrial, manufacturing, or energy industries or consulting for those industries is highly preferred• Ability to accurately determine ongoing permit compliance requirements based on the issuing authority’s regulations• Prior experience with developing and maintain mulita-media, mulita-state compliance program (should we put this preferred?). • Possess the ability to read and correctly interpret federal, state, and local environmental rules and regulations• Must be able to write, complete, and submit permit applications to regulatory agencies with limited guidance• Experience working with multiple internal and external parties to complete applications and submit to agencies in a timely manner
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities • Knowledge of environmental permitting process and basic environmental regulatory process• Knowledge of environmental regulatory requirements under RCRA and other waste programs, Used Oil, SPCC, DOT Hazmat, Tier II • Ability to interpret complex regulatory and permitting concepts • Experience working with environmental consulting firms and/or regulatory/governmental agencies is preferred• Ability to work on many projects at once while maintaining productivity• Must be proficient in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint software programs• Excellent verbal and written communication skills required• Strong organizational and time-management skills needed
Essential Functions• Administer an environmental permitting program for the servicing of engine-generators at various locations throughout the US.• Coordinate multiple projects at once to ensure timely submittal of applications• Review regulatory requirements for permitting process and complete permit applications as required.• Work with engineering group to obtain necessary drawings/submittals to complete application as required.• Review project and determine need for required fuel tank permits/registrations.• Complete and maintain SPCC plans for all owned assets petroleum storage.• Maintain compliance for sites requiring monthly/annual inspections.• Coordinate installation/ compliance inspections for engine-generator installs across the US.• Support marketing and proposal initiatives

Office or remote work environment with some travel required to PowerSecure owned assets and customer owned assets, to meet with local regulatory agencies in respective offices, for Southern Company meetings, or for environmental training and assessments.
