Job Summary:

This position provides application development and support to Alabama Power, Mississippi Power and Georgia Power companies. This is a technical position responsible for implementation and support of Enterprise GIS at Southern Company. This position can be based in Atlanta, GA, or Birmingham, AL.

Job Responsibilities:

Primary responsibilities include development and ongoing support of the GIS applications at Southern Company. Responsibilities also include assisting team members and vendors with analysis, documentation, and testing of changes to the GIS application environment. The successful candidate will work in a team environment that includes IT team members, management, and customers to identify and develop effective GIS solutions to meet business requirements.

Education / Experience:

  1. Bachelor degree in Computer Science or Engineering required

  2. 3 to 5 years experience with GIS application development, or support is required

  3. Experience with C#, Java or other object oriented programming language is required.

  4. Working experience of ESRI's .NET or, Java SDK required

  5. Knowledge of Esri’s REST API preferred

  6. Experience with Python is preferred.

  7. Experience in the utility industry is preferred.

  8. Experience with Oracle is preferred.

  9. Experience with TypeScript and Angular preferred

  10. Working knowledge of ESRI JavaScript API preferred.

  11. Experience with Windows server administration and configuration preferred

  2. Candidate must be able to manage production support and project related activities simultaneously.

  3. Candidate must have strong communication and interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively with a team.
