Communications Strategist

The Communications Strategist role is responsible for implementing Southern Power’s internal communication strategy across the company’s 11 state footprint. Tasks will include article generation, executive support, relationship management, event planning, collateral management, branding and more.

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage project-specific work to support all Southern Power departments and plants

  • Generate and execute communications plans for internal content and projects

  • Plan and implement company-wide events, including internal employee events, customer summit, employee forum and other customer/vendor-focused events

  • Update and maintain branding collateral (video, print, digital content)

  • Manage internal web content

  • Manager project specific work

  • Work closely with executives and subject matter experts to research, write, edit and produce a wide range of communication materials, including speeches, presentations, message creation, correspondence, employee memos, etc.

  • Monitor competitive coverage in traditional and social media platforms

Candidates with the following preferred qualifications are encouraged to apply:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • Degree/concentration in journalism, communications, English, political science, marketing preferred

Experience

  • Applicable work experience (3 years) in a marketing or communications role preferred, including the development of communications to support executives and internal clients. Examples include emails, newsletters, presentations, talking points, etc.

  • Experience in print communications

  • Direct marketing experience a plus

  • Experience utilizing iMovie as well as strong video production/editing skills required; Adobe Creative Suite experience a strong plus

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong creative abilities to find non-traditional methods of telling the company’s value story

  • Proficient with social media and digital / SEO tactics

  • Deep understanding and experience with brand management

  • Outstanding written and presentation skills, speech writing and executive communication including proficiency in AP Style

  • Strong skills in project management, multi-tasking, innovation and creative problem solving in a fast-paced environment

  • Proven track record of building and developing highly effective and collaborative relationships

  • Takes ownership and exhibits strong initiative

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Publisher and PowerPoint

  • HTML and web management skills a plus
