JOB SUMMARY:
Southern Nuclear Operating Company's (SNC) Fleet Central Design Organization provides governance, design solutions and services, engineering analysis, cyber security program controls, and procurement engineering services to promote long-term sustainability and safe operation of the Southern Nuclear fleet. Fleet Central Design sets the standard for excellence in design, procurement engineering, and cyber security across the nuclear industry by providing high quality, technically accurate modifications, and excellent implementation of governance. These efforts are achieved through the continuous engagement, fleet alignment, and development of individuals and partner organizations.
This position is for an Electrical or Digital/I&C Engineer with experience performing Engineering Analysis and/or Design. The successful candidate will become a member of the Southern Nuclear Company (SNC) Fleet Design Electrical and Digital/I&C Engineering team. This team provides: Oversight of Architecture Engineering (AE) Services, Process Improvements and Engineering Design Solutions for the SNC operated plants. In addition to these core functional areas, this team is a core contributor to SNC strategic initiatives associated with the Fleet’s Digital Modernization and shared equipment inventory efficiencies.
This position can be worked from any SNC facility (Birmingham Energy Center, Farley, Hatch or Vogtle) and will require up to 25% travel.
Position Duties include and not limited to:
Development of Engineering Analysis to support Electrical or Digital/I&C Engineering Solutions. (I.E. EMI/RFI Evaluations, Cyber Security Evaluations, Power System and Arc Flash Analysis, etc.)
Development of equipment/system specifications and requirements and perform bid evaluations and reviews for conformance.
Developing site specific or fleet wide design change packages to support capital projects.
Leading Design teams comprised of internal Design team members, external vendors, and fleet stakeholders to maintain scope, schedule, and cost of capital projects.
Performing Onsite Design Implementation support of modifications.
Monitoring of new technology advances for application and incorporation into Fleet Strategic planning
Remote or onsite Emergent equipment troubleshooting support.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Educational Requirements:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university is required.
PE license is preferred but not required.
Experience Requirements:
Minimum 3 years of Electrical or Digital/I&C engineering experience is preferred.
Design Modifications and equipment specifications experience is preferred.
Experience in commercial nuclear power is preferred.
Electrical Position Preferred Experience:
Power flow concepts and distribution system impacts regarding motor-starting and short-circuit.
Transient and dynamic analyses such as bus transfer and diesel sequencing and tuning.
NERC and power regulatory standards.
Power system margin management.
Software use such as ETAP.
Digital / I&C Preferred Experience:
Knowledge of Digital/Cyber Security concepts, practices, and procedures as it relates to nuclear plant physical security is preferred.
Knowledge and experience with network infrastructure, modern operating systems, database applications, web applications and other computing technologies is preferred.
Familiarity with Industrial Control Systems / Programmable Electronic Systems (DCS and PLC) and third-party datalink protocols (Modbus, DNP, ABPLC) is preferred.
An understanding of industrial control system networks (e.g., ICS, PLC, DPC, and SCADA) is preferred.
Excellent leadership skills with demonstrated ability to serve as team project lead.
Excellent planning and organizational skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing)
