Southern Company ROC Specialist in Birmingham, Alabama
This position will function as part of the Southern Power Remote Operations Center (ROC), a 24x7 operation, which provides remote monitoring and operational support to the SPC renewable fleet of wind and solar generating assets across the country. This position is primarily responsible for ensuring proper documentation of ROC Process, ROC Procedure program, new site mobilization, outage scheduling, ROC tools and software applications and other real time support functions.
The ROC Specialist assists the ROC Manager on day to day operations and works closely with the ROC Operators to ensure they have all the tools and procedures needed for NERC GOP 24*7 Operations.
This position is responsible for the following:

ROC Process Development
ROC Procedure Development
ROC Document Management
ROC Training Program Manager
ROC Systems and Tools SME (OSI PI, Maximo, Ignition, etc..)
This position will closely support and interface with ROC Manager, ROC Operators, Renewable Operations (Corp & Site), Southern Power Technology teams, and Asset Managers in these activities.
This position will be located at the Southern Power Remote Operations Center in Birmingham, AL and will be filled at a level and job classification commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
Extensive knowledge and experience in the areas of wind and/or solar Operations is required.
Knowledge and experience in Plant Performance, and/or Engineering is desired.
Experience with plant control systems such as SCADA systems, PLC’s, RTAC, etc.is desired.
Hands-on experience with plant data historian (AspenTech or PI) – building trends and analyzing data - preferred.
Knowledge of and experience with different power generation technologies including gas, solar, and wind is preferred.
Experience with data management techniques to access, integrate, and present data from multiple sources is desired Excel, Access, etc).
Experience in organizing and managing multiple projects at the same time. Proven ability to plan and ability to discern problems that need immediate attention versus those that allow more time to resolve.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills )
BS Preferred or 2-year technical degree, may substitute for applicable work experiences
Ability to use multiple data sources such as SCADA, plant controls, and data historians to troubleshoot plant problems
Proficiency in the use of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, and other applications.
Proven interpersonal and communication skills.
Awareness of and compliance with NERC/CIP requirements applicable to facility and ROC operations

Supporting NERC reporting in conjunction with ROC Manager & site personnel
Establishing ongoing relationships and effectively communicating with all levels of plant and corporate employees and management.
Taking an active role in the training of new employees.
Total travel time will be up to 25%.
This position will work a normal 40-hour work week, be available to support the 24*7 ROC.
