Instrument & Controls Specialist | Plant Barry
Job Summary:
This position is responsible for providing the technical support necessary to maintain the reliable and efficient operation of control systems and associated equipment in the operation of a power generation plant. Position is located at Barry Steam Plant near Mobile, AL.
Summary of Position Duties:
Functions as the Plant subject matter expert for control system related issues required in the operation of a fossil fuel steam generating plant and/or a gas turbine power plant.
Provides a high level of technical expertise to troubleshoot and resolve control problems.
Responsible for the maintenance and troubleshooting to support reliable operation of all plant control systems and data acquisition systems.
Assists in specification, configuration, field checkout, procurement, start-up and tuning of control systems.
Proactively evaluate, enhance, and develop preventative maintenance activities for plant instrumentation and controls systems.
Assist in the Cyber Security role to protect the generation assets according to CIP and Corporate guidelines. Prior Cyber experience is not required.
Develops and delivers controls related training for operations and maintenance personnel.
Must be prepared to work in an industrial plant environment. Industrial experience is preferred.
Job Experience and Education:
Associate degree in instrumentation, controls, and/or electronics is strongly preferred.
Extensive plant process and industrial control experience is strongly preferred.
Experience working with schematic drawings, wiring diagrams and piping & instrumentation diagrams preferred.
Experience working with programmable logic controllers and distributed control systems is required. Experience with Emerson Ovation preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Must have personal computer skills.
Ability to troubleshoot plant control and data acquisition systems.
Must possess the aptitude to gain an in-depth working knowledge of digital control systems and field control devices.
Must have the ability to provide, understand, and follow highly detailed instructions.
Must have the ability to assume a high degree of job responsibility.
Ability to interact with associates in an effective and efficient manner.
Must be available for callouts and willing to work hours outside those normally scheduled such as nights, holidays and weekends when needed.
