EDGE Data Analyst I, II or Sr.

Chattanooga, TN


This position will support the Enterprise Decision Support and Data Governance (EDGE) organization in Southern Company Gas. As a data analyst, this role will work with business and technology stakeholders to review functional and non-functional requirements and design and develop data analytics reporting solutions while also translating functional requirements into deliverables that provide actionable insights. This role will be responsible for identifying appropriate data sources and mapping specifications, validating completeness and data accuracy, and producing appropriate visualization and output vehicles. This role will also collaborate with other technical team members to create and maintain a data catalog owned and maintained by the EDGE organization, as well as assisting the organization with testing, training, and operation of data solutions.

This position follows a hybrid work schedule. Employees are required to be in the office three (3) days per week.

This position may be filled as an Analyst I (GSE04), Analyst II (GSE05) or Analyst Senior (GSE06). Individuals who demonstrate advanced skills in terms of work experience, education, and certifications may be eligible for the more advanced position.

  • Provide functional and technical expertise in the use of ERP platforms, ETL, and database sources.

  • Develop the appropriate reporting solution(s) that meet the specific business need using SQL, Excel, PowerBI, and other standard end reporting.

  • Provide data analysis insights as input to strategy development across the SCG organization.

  • Collaborate with business and technology personnel to gather requirements and access workflows & processes to develop analytics-based reporting solutions for integrations, transformations, and deliverables.

  • Maintain EDGE reporting database and other routine extracts and databases.

  • Clearly communicate data-supported insights and KPI tracking of business objectives through advanced data visualization and interactive dashboarding.

  • Be a change agent using data supported recommendations to implement best practices and process improvement.

  • Promote and be a champion of Safety-First safety initiatives for work team.



  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Computer Science, Business Analytics, other relevant analytical field, or equivalent work experience.

  • Advanced degree is a plus.


  • 2 years of experience in data management, data extraction, report creation, and/or strategic data governance.

  • Strong analytic skills with demonstrated work experience in data mining, query writing, and visualization.

  • Intermediate knowledge in MS Excel (VLOOKUP, Pivot) and applications within MS Office Suite.

  • Proficiency in Maximo, Oracle, and other ERP systems.

  • Advanced data visualization proficiency in Power BI and MS PowerPoint.

  • Experience working cross-functionally in a highly matrixed organization.

  • Executive-level presentation skill, as well as effective verbal and written communication of complex analytical concepts.

  • General natural gas/utilities industry knowledge and/or experience a plus.

  • Intermediate to advanced experience in SQL, Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI, and other database and reporting tools.

  • Intermediate to advanced experience in programming languages R and Python.

  • Working knowledge of Data Science concepts and Machine Learning.

  • Strong ability to communicate business objectives to executive leadership.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to engage and communicate with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and manage competing deadlines.


  • This position can require some travel – approximately 10% per year.
