Supply Chain Management Buyer– Procurement- Plant Farley


SCM Buyer I, II, or SR – Job Family (E3-E5)

This position will sit at Plant Farley.


The Buyer position is responsible for procurement activities supporting category management strategies and business partner requirements.  Duties include locating sources of supply, issuing requests for quotes, conducting bidder meetings, analyzing bids, creating purchase orders (service and material), negotiating, expediting, resolving supplier problems, and other supply chain duties as required. This position will be filled based on the expertise and experience of the successful candidate. It has the potential to be filled as a grade level Exempt 03, Exempt 04 or Exempt 05.

Job Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will:

  • Work closely with category manager, contract agents and business partners to best accommodate their supply chain requirements.

  • Develop and evaluate proposals for materials and services to determine best purchase alternative.

  • Issue orders for purchase of goods and services.

  • Resolve conflicts or discrepancies involving pricing, invoicing, specifications, and contracts. 

  • Develop and maintain supplier relationships.

  • Perform rotating on-call duty to support emergent plant procurement needs during outages, weekends, holidays, or nights per rotating duty schedule.

Job Requirements:

  • At least two years of experience related to supply chain management or work management is preferred.

  • General knowledge of power plant systems and equipment is desired.

  • Experience working in nuclear plant operations is desired.

  • General knowledge of business practices associated with procurement, such as budgeting, traffic/logistics, contracts, engineering, risk management, accounting and legal is desired.

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Law, Finance, Supply Chain Management preferred

  • Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) is a plus.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong know knowledge of purchasing and supply chain practices and standards is preferred

  • Knowledge of Uniform Commercial Code

  • Strong analytical skills, communication skills and negotiating skills

  • Ability to interact with business unit personnel and suppliers

  • Ability to handle multiple transactions while under time constraints

  • Strict adherence to Procurement Procedures and documentation requirements

  • Strong knowledge for the Maximo Purchasing System

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
