Job Summary

Distribution Planning is the organization in Power Delivery that performs system studies and analysis for Georgia Power Distribution facilities. As part of this process, analysis of the loading and voltage is performed to develop projects to ensure safe and reliable operation of these Distribution facilities. This position would be responsible for the Columbus and Jonesboro areas. This position would work closely with our area Power Delivery teams, Reliability, Area Planning, Project Management, Transmission Planning, Sales, and Customer Choice in developing quality solutions. These solutions will need to be forward-looking as we shape our Distribution Grid of the future to include Grid Investment and integration of Distributed Energy Resources (DER).

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Technical Support of Project Studies - Perform and coordinate CymeDist studies to ensure adequate capacity and voltage on our Distribution feeders. Analyzing summer and winter peaks, DER loads, spot loads, and switching peaks to ensure the study accurately reflects our model.

  2. Development of quality solutions

  3. Vetting through Solution Teams and appropriate parties

  4. Partnering with Area Power Delivery teams, Reliability, and Area Planning to identify areas of need

  5. Knowledge of the Columbus and Jonesboro feeders and customers

  6. Oversight of Capital Improvement projects for Area Distribution (Load Growth Capacity, Load Growth Feeder Addition, and Capacitor/Regulator addition) for the Columbus and Jonesboro areas. Support of Capital Investment for Transmission driven projects.

  7. Evaluation of large load projects to assess impacts on the Distribution system and assist in determining the method of service.

  8. Special projects to shape Grid Investment, DER integration, etc. into the Distribution system

Job Requirements (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills, & Behavioral Attributes)

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or Business is preferred; additional consideration of experience for electric utility industry certifications

  • Minimum 5 years electrical utility distribution experience desired; additional consideration of Power Delivery experience

  • Experience with CymeDist or other Distribution modeling software is helpful

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Strong technical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills

  • Effective at building relationships with cross functional teams

  • Ability to work under deadlines to respond to customer demands

  • Ability to prioritize work effectively, exercise sound judgment, and accurately complete multiple tasks
