Southern Company Commissioning Project Manager in Durham, North Carolina

Description

This is a remote position that can reside anywhere in the United States and will be required to travel +/- 50%, project dependent.

Summary

The primary duties of the Commissioning Project Manager are to ensure the startup and commissioning of the assigned PowerSecure Microgrid equipment is completed safely, on time, on budget, and meets the operational requirements per the client’s specifications. The CX PM will be responsible for commissioning documentation, 3rd party equipment testing oversight, commissioning activity oversight, budget control, schedule control, and project closeout.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS in Engineering must be accompanied by emergency power system commissioning experience, or similar AND 4+ years of experience in respective industry (will consider candidates with high school diploma or equivalent provided they have 8+ years of experience in the energy industry or a relative career field).

  • CAPM or PMP not required, but preferred.

  • Ability to read and communicate in English.

  • Ability to use computer and proficient with MS Office software.

  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must be punctual, organized, and professional.

  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Experience coordinating and working with general contractors and subcontractors.

  • Knowledge of project management, commissioning process, schedule development, and budget acumen.

  • Ability to identify and manage priorities with urgency, while maintaining high quality and customer service.

Essential Functions

  • Maintain safe and healthy work sites by following company standards, procedures, and complying with legal requirements.

  • Coordinate with Project Managers, Engineering, and Commissioning Technician Supervisor/Coordinator on project schedules.

  • Coordinate with 3rd party testing agencies, or internal departments on scope of work and provide oversight on equipment startup and testing.

  • Responsible for assembling as-built drawing packages and functional test scripts prior to project startup/commissioning.

  • Responsible for ensuring project startup and commissioning operational requirements are followed and completed according to schedule.

  • Responsible for developing commissioning scope and commissioning schedule.

  • Responsible for ensuring project startup and commissioning closeout documentation is completed in an accurate and timely manner.

  • Coordinate with quality, engineering, and project management to provide project feedback and improvement suggestions.

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

  • Travel required (50%+), must be willing and able to drive company vehicle and/or fly commercially if necessary.

  • Must be able to stand or walk for 3-4 hours at a time.

Work Environment

  • Exposure to sitting for extended periods.

  • Exposure to weather in varying climates.

  • Exposure to noise intensity levels.

  • Exposure to energized electrical equipment.

  • Exposure to overhead hazards (crane & rigging).

  • Exposure to heavy machinery.
