Coal Equipment Operator

The Coal Equipment Operator (CEO) is an entry level position in the Power Plant Fuels Department that is responsible for continuous inspecting, operating, monitoring, and maintaining the cleanliness of moving coal conveyor systems, fuel transfer, supply lines, and auxiliary equipment. CEOs also perform routine Fuels Dept. tasks including:
inspect, monitor, and operate pumps, manual valves, and motors found in power generation fuel and water systems.
receive and unload fuel.
collect and prepare fuel samples.
prepare and complete documentation for all activities and procedures.
performing equipment isolation and alignments (electrical and mechanical)
work around heavy equipment (e.g., bulldozers, tractors, back hoes, trains, etc.)
perform housekeeping work to ensure the cleanliness of the equipment and fuels area and to ensure that dust control procedures are being addressed. This will include performing fire watch and responding to incipient fires.
In performing these tasks, CEOs must
Assist other personnel such as mechanical and electrical maintenance, laboratory, and engineering personnel.
Brief the relief shift personnel on the work's status and any information pertinent to the safe and efficient equipment operation.
Pass an onsite training program and qualification exam to retain employment.
Follow safety rules, regulations, and procedures.
This union covered position is subject to the provisions of Paragraph 46 of the Memorandum of Agreement between GPC and IBEW Local Union No. 84.

Pre-Employment Requirements
Candidates for employment must :
Possess a valid driver's license.
Qualify on a written pre-employment aptitude test and physical abilities test before being considered for an on-site interview.
Education & Experience Requirements
High school diploma or GED
Technical Degree, Certificate or Diploma Preferred
Previous work experience (full-time or part-time) Preferred.
Previous work experience in power plant, manufacturing, industrial, commercial, warehousing, construction, experience with moving conveyors/belts/systems, or other safety related setting preferred but not required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of basic electrical and mechanical principles
Knowledge of hand tools
Math calculation skills
Basic computer skills
Ability to read, understand and follow technical procedures, rules, and regulations.
Ability to read and interpret tables, graphs, and piping diagrams.
Ability to take measurements using gauges, digital meters, and other instruments.
Ability to work with and support team-oriented work groups.
Open two-way communication skills.

This job requires shift work and overtime, you will be required to work weekends, nights, and holidays. Plant Specific: currently this position has 2 shifts, (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM and 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
Must be available to respond to callouts seven days per week.
Must be able to perform duties wearing personal protective equipment which may include safety glasses, hard hat, respirator, dust mask, steel toe shoes, gloves and hearing protection.
Must be able to lift and push or pull heavy equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
Must be able to work in difficult environments including confined spaces, extreme hot and cold temperatures, indoors and outdoors, around loud noise and locations accessible only via vertical ladders or over uneven spaces, cat walks, climbing high elevations up to 40 feet or working on grated surfaces/platforms above 20 feet.
Must be willing to work with high voltages and high steam and water pressures.
