Job Summary
The Substation Construction Crew Supervisor is responsible for providing leadership, guidance, and direction to the Transmission Substation Construction work group with statewide responsibilities for performing Substation construction, greenfield and rebuild activities for the Georgia Power Transmission capital program portfolio.
The role will provide direct leadership to 10 Foremen who oversee approximately 100 covered employees across the state. The Supervisor will conduct ongoing performance management and ensure robust plans for employee training and development in support of an active learning environment. This position interfaces with Training and Safety representatives to support the initial and ongoing training within Substation Construction.
The Supervisor is responsible to lead the team in a Safety Excellence environment with a focus on learning and ensuring critical risk plans as well as our STEP observation tools are implemented.
The Substation Construction Crew Supervisor will coordinate with Substation Construction Field Managers, Contract Crews, Construction Services, Project Management, Substation Design, Transmission Maintenance Centers, Transmission Control Center, Supply Chain Management, Grid Investment and other internal and external partners to ensure projects are completed on schedule and in a quality manner.
NOTE: This position has statewide responsibilities, and frequent travel within the state of Georgia is required – up to 50% of the time. The typical work schedule is four 10-hour days, Monday through Thursday.
Job Responsibilities
Provide leadership for Substation Construction and support initiatives throughout Transmission Construction.
Create and implement strategy to address current and future needs of Transmission Substation Construction.
Model safety leadership and support employee-led safety culture and human performance initiatives.
Foster an inclusive culture where employees feel valued and create an environment of trust, development, and continuous improvement.
Deliver effective performance management and actively support leadership development and training for direct reports.
Create and implement equitable, proactive plans to support Substation Construction team members in their learning, growth and development training for current and future roles.
Understand and adhere to the Power Delivery Construction labor agreements.
Manage relationships with internal and external partners.
Oversee the hiring and onboarding process for covered employees.
Ensure routine evaluation and optimization of crew makeup based on experience level and development interests.
Support the Gated Process for effective and timely completion of Construction projects such as engaging in weekly/monthly scheduling meetings.
Assist Substation Construction Manager with workforce planning and contractor management.
Lead and coordinate storm restoration efforts as needed.
Job Requirements
Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Technical Experience:
Seven years preferred of transmission substation construction experience with a proven ability to demonstrate knowledge of the transmission system, construction practices, electric operating practices, design standards, DOT requirements, Section "0", Smith Driving System, land requirements and regulations, budgeting, scheduling, and general business practices.
Familiarity with project management principles and techniques including the Gated Process.
Overseeing Transmission Storm Restoration experience required.
Experience with contract management / oversight a plus.
Leadership Experience:
Foreman or Frontline-Substation Supervisor experience required
Performance management experience and/or insightful understanding of the process of setting clear expectations and holding others accountable.
Demonstrated experience leading teams and developing others

Demonstrated focus on Safety Excellence and Human Performance
Working knowledge of IBEW Local 84 Transmission MOA
Strong communication and collaboration skills with internal and external audiences.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Frequent statewide travel required.
Very well versed in the Substation construction work practices of Georgia Power. Possess in-depth knowledge of transmission Substation equipment and installation practices.
Ability to lead and develop a diverse workforce, maximize team effectiveness, set expectations of those around them and hold others accountable.
Ability to guide, support and develop Foremen.
Demonstrates ability to think strategically and help others do the same
Knowledge of the Georgia Integrated Transmission System (ITS) beneficial
Knowledge of GPC Safety and Health policies, safe work practices & procedures, and System Operating Procedures
Proficiency as a mentor/trainer
Ability to lead workgroups through change by understanding, communicating, and implementing strategic initiatives.
Demonstrated leadership involving multiple work groups and departments with the ability to cultivate a team environment for project success and resolve conflict between individuals and functional areas
Effective in oral and written communications, facilitation of meetings, and ability to build and maintain trusting relationships with varied contacts, both internal and external to the Company
Knowledge of contract administration beneficial
