To provide leadership, guidance and direction for the Transmission Technical Support functions of Southern Company Transmission Engineering. The Transmission Technical Support area is charged with providing consistent, professional support in various technical areas across Southern Company Transmission including system support for AUTOCAD, DID, TEAMS, as well as numerous other areas as assigned. This position has responsibility for supervision of employees in Forest Park, GA and Birmingham, AL.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create a safe work environment through total personal commitment to Target Zero.

  • Provide system support to Southern Company Transmission for AUTOCAD, DID, TEAMS, and other systems as assigned.

  • Manage the selection, development and performance of departmental employees.

  • Participate in, support, and lead as appropriate Southern Company Transmission activities and initiatives.

  • Develop and support a strong and effective team environment within Southern Company Transmission Engineering

  • Support the oversight and operations of the SCS Transmission Engineering office in Forest Park, GA

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education Requirements:

  • A BS degree in Engineering or Computer Science (preferred) or strongly related technical experience

  • A Professional Engineering (P.E.) license is a plus

Experience Requirements:

  • Experience with AutoCAD, DID, TEAMS and other Transmission computer systems preferred

  • Experience working with other departments in ensuring technical issues are identified and corrective action(s) is taken; ensuring the customer is satisfied with the outcome

  • Experience managing technical support operations and projects, including troubleshooting, customer service issues, meeting project schedules, and installations

  • Proven ability to successfully implement and lead safe work behaviors in the workplace.

  • Proven skills in the areas of performance management and employee development with a demonstrated ability to create and sustain high-performance teams.

  • Proven ability to establish and maintain peer and customer relationships across organizational lines. This includes OpCo Transmission personnel as well as the Technology Organization.

  • Proven ability to build consensus and achieve results through the effective use of persuasive communication and formal presentation skills

  • General knowledge of transmission planning, design, construction, operations and maintenance desired

  • Working knowledge of the SCS Transmission Engineering processes, procedures and tools used to scope, estimate, and design transmission substation and line projects.

  • Demonstrated risk-assessment skills for use in guiding decisions on alternatives of established processes, procedures and tools

  • Ability to routinely travel between offices (up to 25%)
