Mechanic – Georgia Power Chattahoochee Hydro Plant

This position will be covered by the Memorandum of Agreement between Georgia Power and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and is based in Salem, AL.

Job Requirements

Troubleshoot and repair mechanical problems on equipment in an industrial environment. The position will be filled at a Journeyman level.

Job Knowledge

Previous experience as a mechanic or formal apprenticeship preferred:

  • Must have experience repairing industrial boilers (not required in Hydro but required if ever moved to a fossil steam plant)

  • Must have experience repairing pumps, valves, gearboxes, etc.

  • Must have experience welding (Stick, MIG, TIG)

  • Must have experience using an oxygen/acetylene torch

  • Must have experience using precision measurement tools

  • Must have experience aligning pumps and motors

  • Must have experience rigging and lifting heavy equipment

  • Must be able to read and understand plant system and equipment prints

  • Must be able to read, understand and apply technical instruction manuals

  • Must be able to use power and hand tools

  • Must possess intermediate computer skills (Microsoft Office applications, Maximo a plus)

  • Intermediate skill at running lathes, end mills, etc. preferred

  • Experience tearing down and reassembling Hydro units preferred

Successful completion of the POSS/MASS pre-employment test is a requirement.
