Environmental Specialist

This position is located in Gulfport, Mississippi

Job Summary :

This position is accountable for reviewing and providing interpretation of certain environmental regulations for the Company and serves as a functional interface to assist departments affected by those regulations. The position also serves as corporate contact with regulatory agencies concerning specific environmental matters and for coordination in the areas of compliance reporting, securing permits/licenses, environmental training, and seeking beneficial changes to environmental regulations.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Chemistry or Environmental Science preferred.

  • Experience in environmental compliance; understanding applicable regulations, permitting programs and electric utility operations

  • Broad/comprehensive knowledge and experience with CEMS, air quality and related functions preferred

  • A minimum of 5 years work experience in environmental related areas is preferred

  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service, written/oral communication skills and the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with employees, internal customers, and other stakeholders.

  • Motivated, Self -directed team player.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Understand and interpret existing and new assigned environmental regulations and their applicability to Companyfacilities and operations.

  • Develop and implement appropriate compliance strategies for all Company facilities.

  • Manage timely and complete submittal of permit applications, required reports, agency notifications, etc.

  • Continually seek ways to achieve compliance in a manner which considers reliability and operational issues, and costs to our customers.

  • Maintain strong working relationships with state and federal regulators and other relevant stakeholders; negotiatecomplex issues as required.

  • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction with internal allies and stakeholders.

  • Keep the manager and other management informed of significant issues in a timely manner
