Real-Time Tools Integration Project Manager
JOB SUMMARY:
Project Manager for Real-time Tools Integration (RTI) will be responsible for a broad range of engineering initiatives associated with the integration of the software tools used in the real-time for operations of the Bulk Power System. The successful candidate will lead the software tool integration process, from identifying technology needs, priorities, and strategies, to overseeing the development and implementation of operating requirements and Statements of Work (SOW) activities for these tools. This position requires a proactive approach to identify the technical requirements for each of the new tools, provide developer guidance, develop Factory Acceptance Testing and Site Acceptance Testing documents, design and configure the tool parameters and screen layouts to ensure seamless integration with existing processes, procedures, and other essential tools.
The PM for Real-time Tools Integration will also play a crucial role in developing comprehensive training strategies, including operator training and drills, to ensure all team members are proficient in the new systems. This responsibility extends to providing Subject Matter Expert (SME) support on the floor in real-time, ensuring operational challenges are addressed swiftly and efficiently. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of the technical aspects of real-time tool integration and a proven track record of managing complex projects within the energy sector. This role requires a dynamic individual who can effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams, manage stakeholder expectations, and drive the successful adoption of innovative technologies to enhance Southern Company's transmission capabilities.
Note: This job will be filled either at level 6 or at Level 7, based on the preferred candidate’s education, experience, and skills.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities )
Experience & Education Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree or Associate degree is required - Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering technology degree preferred.
5+ years of Transmission experience in three or more areas: Operations, Planning, Maintenance, Design, Construction, EMS, Operations Support, Protection & Control, Project Management, Resource Planning, Renewables.
Knowledge of modeling and power system analysis, T&D switching and clearance practices
Must meet all physical and cyber security requirements including participation in the Insider Threat Program.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Basic knowledge of bulk power system planning and operations.
Familiarity with GPC and SOCO operating systems, tools (STOMP, EMS, TransMap), storm and system alert practices, and regulatory standards.
Skills in configuring operational tools, optimizing user experience, and operational efficiency.
Adaptability to rapidly changing technologies and operational needs.
Ability to develop and implement effective training programs and provide real-time SME support.
Awareness of smart grid technologies, grid modernization, and real-time data analytics.
Knowledge of ADMS and DERMS functionalities and their interface with EMS.
Risk identification and mitigation strategies for tool integration.
Up-to-date with emerging technologies and industry trends in grid management.
Effective communication and influence across organizations and stakeholders.
Strong relationship-building, active listening, and team development skills.
Experience with transmission voltage systems (34.5kV and above) and construction practices.
Proven ability to work collaboratively with multi-discipline teams.

Proficiency in power flow and power system analysis software.

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide Technical Vision, Strategy, and Guidance:
Develop and implement technology needs, priorities, and strategies to enhance real-time operational tools.
Define operating requirements and create Statements of Work (SOW) for real-time operational tools.
Assist with the development of the System Technical Requirement documentation for real-time tools development.
Offer guidance and input to developers including conducting assessments and testing.
Develop Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and Field Acceptance Testing (FAT) documentation and participate in these tests for real-time tools.
Configure parameters and design screen layouts to optimize tool functionality.
Ensure seamless integration of new tools with existing processes and procedures.
Facilitate the integration of new tools with other existing tools to create a cohesive operational environment.
Develop and implement training strategies, including operator training and drills, to ensure effective use of tools.
Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on the floor in real-time to provide immediate support.
- Team Leadership and Support:
Lead and support cross-functional teams to drive the successful integration of real-time operational tools.
Collaborate with various teams to ensure alignment with overall business goals and objectives.
Foster a collaborative and innovative team environment to encourage continuous improvement.

Coordinate with stakeholders to gather requirements and feedback, ensuring tools meet operational needs.
- Support the Ongoing Job Functions:
Act as SME and provide the necessary support to the Floor personnel in real-time
Oversee TCC Metrics to monitor and improve operational performance.
Support Reliability Reporting, including SAIDI/SAIFI metrics, to ensure accurate and timely data.
Manage Alert Media responsibilities, excluding strategy development.
Develop and maintain operator dashboards to provide real-time operational insights.
Configure and manage SharePoint to facilitate information sharing and collaboration.
Provide training for new EMS/TransMap systems to ensure effective usage.
Develop and manage storm tools and reporting to enhance storm response capabilities.
