EEP Customer Engagement Manager
Directs and implements the marketing, communications, and community engagement strategy for overall energy efficiency program (EEP) and Energy Efficiency Services. Establishes direction for customer engagement and trade ally engagement strategy. Responsible for governance and control of strategic marketing, effective communications and outreach strategies, website strategy, portfolio and program collateral, EEP branding and public positioning, internal and external stakeholder communication channel development and management. Manages the development, implementation, execution of Nicor Gas’ Energy Efficiency Program marketing, public relations, public affairs communications and internal and external outreach strategies to increase customer awareness of the Nicor Gas Energy Efficiency Program and its offerings and drives customer participation and enrollment in programs to achieved stipulated savings goals.
Develops plans to best integrate EEP strategy with overall corporate marketing and corporate communications strategy. Directs all outreach and event activities coordinated through marketing and communications team, including implementation contractor-led events. Partners with corporate communications to maintain coordination between EEP marketing initiatives and corporate activities. Fosters a positive image of Nicor Gas and ensures message consistency across all programs and implementation contractors. Responsible for marketing and communications budget and expenses. Reviews and edits all internal and external marketing and communication materials, including press and collateral pieces. Ideal candidate leverages community relations and earned media opportunities and can act as program spokesperson if needed. Leads advertising efforts in coordination with internal stakeholders. Leads EEP outreach coordinator with press events, sponsorships, and other external activities. Provides leadership to program
managers, outreach manager, and all other internal stakeholders to ensure resources are available to support and advance department efforts. Establishes policies and processes for creative review and internal/external stakeholder coordination. Directs day-to-day activities of direct reports.
•Bachelor’s degree in Business, Public Relations, Communications, Media, Marketing or similar combination of education and work experience.
•Advanced degree or APR (Accredited in Public Relations) or ABC (Accredited Business Communicator) certification; Active role in industry organization such as PRSA or IABC
Related Work Experience:
•Required: 6 years’ experience in marketing and / or communications, or graduate degree with 3-5 years’ experience
•OR any combination of education and work experience which permits the candidate to meet position work requirements.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
•Occasional local Travel: The incumbent will be required to travel on occasion. Trips will require driving within the Nicor Gas territory and Chicago area.

•Due to nature of role, employee may occasionally work beyond traditional business hours to meet media deadlines or attend events as company representative.
MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Directs and implements marketing, communications and community outreach strategy for overall energy efficiency program (EEP)
•Develop EEP marketing / communications and outreach program policies and business processes.
•Advises and establishes direction for customer engagement and trade ally engagement strategy.
•Review, edit and if necessary, write press releases, media advisories and statements, talking points, etc.
•Responsible for governance and control of overall marketing, communications and outreach plans, website strategy, portfolio and program collateral, EEP branding and public positioning, internal and external stakeholder communication channel development and management.
•Oversees the development, implementation, execution and management of Nicor Gas’ Energy Efficiency Program marketing, public relations, public affairs communications and internal and external outreach strategy
•Serve as program spokesman as needed
•Direct the execution of marketing, media, outreach and public relations plans for the Nicor Gas EEP business unit
•Lead and oversee coordination and involvement with internal stakeholders including corporate communications, community relations, energy assistance and customer development
•Provide planning and execution leadership as needed for public events
•Familiarity with new media platforms, including websites, blogs and social media channels as well as digital media marketing opportunities, including geo-targeting and search engine optimization, to support message penetration
•Develops EEP strategy to best integrate with overall corporate marketing and corporate communications strategy.
•Develop and manage energy efficiency education and outreach plans and budget to ensure sufficient customer enrollment in programs to meet gas savings goals.
•Responsible for incorporating results from market potential studies, program evaluation results, and research activities as necessary to develop new energy efficiency marketing and communication plans & campaigns
•Responsible for developing a budget and track expenditures for the energy efficiency program marketing and communications team
•Ensure marketing, communications and outreach plans align with EEP business unit objectives and are consistent with corporate goals
•Drive process improvements
•Keep current with standard industry best practices and innovations in marketing, outreach and communications
•Lead and oversee joint and coordinated education and outreach efforts with other utilities, including contracting and management of joint contractors and other operating logistics.
•Utilize regular reports, analysis, and recommendations to develop marketing strategies and tactical plans.

The role plans the marketing, communication and outreach activities for the energy efficiency department and guides the team in successfully executing those tasks. The role is responsible for maximizing the brand awareness and achieve the necessary program participation with a set budget. Therefore, the role can be highly analytical, fast passed and requires the ability to make significant choices based on the situation at hand and program needs.
The person in this role will routinely review and approve materials produced by the marketing team, lead the team in creating advertising campaigns and communication pieces and create strategies to constantly improve efforts.

The role requires an understanding of marketing, communications and outreach as well as strong analytics and project management skills. Although some of the tasks may be repeated on a yearly basis, like writing marketing plans and leading the team in yearly transition, most of the tasks are varied in complexity depending on the team’s needs. Thus, a varied and strong set of skills are required for this role. Analytic skills are required to analyze campaign and effort effectiveness and decide on best courses of action. Creativity is required to create advertisement campaigns, produce TV and radio and create digital, outdoor and print ads. Additionally, strong project management skills are required in order to handle all of the communications, marketing/advertisement and outreach efforts required by the program needs.
