Field Training Manager

Description

The Field Training Manager is responsible for the administration of the Field Training organization which includes designing, developing and measuring the field training curriculum. This role ensures that the training materials and delivery are consistent and meet compliance standards (Company, Federal, State) as well as the process and application needs identified by the business. Special emphasis is placed on OSHA, DOT, welding/joining and regulatory requirements training. Job responsibilities include overseeing Operator Qualification evaluations (initial and requalification) are performed in alignment with federal guidelines. This role will also oversee trainers and designers for Field Operations to ensure consistent delivery of training following principles of Adult Learning and manage departmental resources, including people and budget. The Manager would also be responsible for mentoring, coaching and developing the technical and interpersonal skills of direct reports.

Job Responsibilities

Functional Expertise:

•Manages the design and development of innovative training programs, applying sound training principles and methodologies, to address needs for Field Operations training ( includes eLearning, instructor led and hands training and video platforms).

•Creates and manages certification process for in-house content delivery and/or external vendor delivery.

•Responsible for regulatory record keeping and reporting for Operator Qualification and training for state and federal agencies.

•Partners with the Safety organization to enforce guidelines to support the Critical Risk program and Safety Culture awareness.

•Sets expectations and priorities for internal customer training needs.

•Sources and evaluates alternative training solutions to address business needs by considering timeframe, cost and quality/impact of solution.

Business Acumen:

•Responsible for the implementation of specific change management initiatives across the business and leverages tools and resources to help facilitate effective change (ie, Field Ambassador program for field applications)

•Responsible for overseeing that Operator Qualification evaluations (initial and requalification) and welding/joining procedures are performed in alignment with federal guidelines.

•Responsible for evaluating, implementing and ensuring use of all existing and new Technical Training technology (iPads, learning management system and content management system).

•Provide oversight for On the Job/experiential learning as part of the employees progression.to ensure exposure to the appropriate work types.

Engagement:

•Collaborates with business owners, training staff, and subject matter experts (SME) as appropriate to ensure accurate and complete training documentation.

•Establishes developmental plans and provides developmental opportunities for direct reports to expand training-related, technical and interpersonal skills

•Oversees the post 90 training survey to measure the effectiveness of training.

•Collaborates with Training Support Manager to create and maintain training schedule.

Driving Results:

•Conducts ongoing audit of current curriculum to ensure most effective training methods are used and content is current and delivered in most efficient and effective manner.

•Partners with Safety, Compliance, Field Ops Support and Utility Business Systems to identify gaps in training content and determine the best way to communicate the change.

•Manages direct reports and ensures overall exceptional client customer service.

•Recommends training vendor selection and partners with vendor(s) to ensure continuous systems improvement and future capability needs.

•Assist the Director of Technical Training with the creation and management of the budget to meet company goals.

Qualifications

Education, Certifications/Licenses:

Required:

•BA/BS,HR, Business, Adult Learning or equivalent work experience

Preferred:

•4 to 5 years in a training related field and adult learning

Related Work Experience:

Required:

•3 years’ experience in Training role with specific responsibilities in budgeting, scheduling, reporting, and Learning Management Systems

•Work experience in the natural gas, utility or energy industry

Preferred:

•2 years Supervisory Experience
