Manager, Distribution Integrity (DIMP)

Job Summary:

The Manager of the Distribution Integrity Management Program (DIMP) will oversee and manage the distribution integrity management program at Nicor Gas. This role includes ensuring regulatory compliance, implementing best practices, and leading initiatives to enhance the safety and integrity of the distribution network. The position requires a deep understanding of pipeline integrity, pipeline risk management, and regulatory compliance, as well as the ability to collaborate with various departments to achieve program goals.

To accomplish these objectives, the candidate must:

  • Communicate the critical role of Nicor Gas’ DIMP to diverse internal and external stakeholders.

  • Lead cross-departmental teams of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to identify distribution system threats and to collaborate on approaches to address such threats.

  • Provide strategic guidance for the continuous improvement and management of the DIMP risk model.

  • Review and approve DIMP risk model results for use by System Planning and Engineering, as well as facilitate the delivery of DIMP risk model results to Management.

  • Support State and Federal Reporting requirements, as well as Rate Case data requests.

  • Identify distribution system data gaps and collaborate with IT to enhance system data capture and accuracy.

Representative Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Executes and enhances the Nicor Gas’ Distribution Integrity Management Program (DIMP).

  • Monitor PHMSA mandates and recommend program adjustments to comply with changing regulatory environment.

  • Coaches and develops staff of approximately three (3) direct reports to achieve optimal performance and employee development.

  • Prepare and administer department budget according to the fiscal plan. Provide explanations on variances and take appropriate action.

  • Build relationships and communication channels with internal teams (operations, engineering, compliance, regulatory, legal, supply chain).

  • Communicate to key stakeholders any new policies, regulations, programs and/or performance measures that impact the DIM Program.

  • Present DIM Program results and metrics to leadership to ensure understanding and support of program direction, costs, and results.

  • Represent Nicor Gas at federal/state functions and industry events. This includes engaging with external stakeholders who can influence regulatory policy.

  • Develop and recommend risk mitigation activities that improve the safety and reliability of the distribution system.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience - Preferably in Geography, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or other technical discipline

  • 10+ years operations experience in a gas utility or other energy related field

  • 3+ years of experience with utility data and related systems

Preferred:

  • Successful project management experience

  • 1+ years’ experience of supervisory/management experience leading analytical departments or project teams

Specific Skills & Knowledge:

  • Proficiency in reading, interpreting, and implementing codes, standards, and procedures, with a focus on Distribution Integrity Management Program knowledge.

  • Expertise in identifying process improvements and developing corresponding processes and procedures.

  • Capability to influence stakeholders through data-driven insights and effective presentations.

  • Advanced project planning and management skills.

  • Strong proficiency in data mining and analytics.

  • Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and other data management systems.

  • Ability to work autonomously and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all organizational levels.

  • Proven experience in directing and developing team members.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

  • Travel: Occasional local and overnight travel (5 – 20%)

  • Physical Demands: This position requires the ability to lift up to 10 pounds.

  • Work Environment: The incumbent works primarily in an office environment

Pay Range: $99,663.00 - $156,612.50 USD Annually: Base salary varies depending on a wide array of factors, which may include but are not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience.
