Southern Company Continuous Improvement Engineer II/III in Randleman, North Carolina

Description

Power Secure is hiring a Continuous Improvement Engineer-II/III for our Durham, NC facility. This is an on-site role and can be filled at the lower level, if necessary.

The Continuous Improvement Engineer is responsible for improving manufacturing and business processes with the use of lean manufacturing techniques. Ensure the Methods of Manufacturing (MoM) are being implemented on the shop floor so that goals are met and to target labor hour reduction, improve quality and safety, and to drive efficiency. You will collaborate and be the liaison with other team members within all levels of the organization. If the position is filled at the CIE-Level III, you will lead Continuous Improvement (CI) Projects and ME efforts that will focus on improving process efficiency, cost, safety, and quality.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to the shop floor on all manufacturing processes

  • Analyze product design for best MoM and ensure it is being implemented at the shop floor

  • Assist Manufacturing Engineers with best Bill of Materials (BOM) structures

  • Study production process and machines requirements

  • Collect process and product data to analyze and identify trends and areas of opportunities and strategies for improvement

  • Creation and training on standard work

  • Lead Kaizen Events and other Lean activities

  • Give training on new products, MAI’s, MoM and all other ME tools

  • Along with floor supervisors, identify process improvement and labor efficiency in the assembly

  • Develop and design new tools and/or equipment that will help with process efficiency

  • Determine and implement Facility/Cell Layouts

  • Educate people on lean and manufacturing engineering tools and processes

  • Use lean and brainstorming tools such as Root Cause Analysis, PFMEA, VSMs, Gap Analysis, Fish Bone Analysis, etc.

  • Lead and manage more complex and technical projects. Present to upper management the project’s results and cost

  • Collaborate with other engineers, production supervisors, suppliers, etc.

  • Provide guidance to more junior MEs

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Engineering degree- preferably Industrial or Mechanical Engineering

  • Six (6) or more years of experience in a manufacturing environment

  • Experience in the assembly of generator sets, switchgear, and/or metal fabrication equipment

  • Demonstrate strong leadership, communication, organizational and delegation skills

  • Demonstrated problem solving skills – using Engineering and Lean Manufacturing experience and techniques

  • Project Management skills

  • Positive attitude. Set goals and drives results

  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications and experience with computer database systems, such as Visual Manufacturing and CAD Software.

  • Results-oriented, able to maintain positive relationships with all levels of staff.
