Operations Technician

Position Summary

In anticipation for future staffing needs in 2025, SPC is currently seeking candidates for an Experienced Operations Technician position to operate & maintain the Plant Rowan combined cycle power plant. Additional responsibilities will include monitoring, troubleshooting, maintaining and repairing the plant’s electrical, instrumentation, and mechanical power plant systems, and various other responsibilities as required. Maintain plant maintenance records in a computer-based work order system (Maximo®), participate in the plants maintenance program as a system owner and actively participate in the fleet-wide operation review boards as a system owner. This is a multi-crafted position that has the responsibility of performing various other duties that are expected; these include project management and system ownership assignments.

Education

  • HS Graduate or Equivalent.

  • 2-Year College/Technical Degree preferred.

Job Experience

  • Two to five years of recent combined cycle operations experience as a control room and field operator is required.

  • Recent experience with power plant combustion turbine major maintenance programs including combustion inspection, HGPI, major overhaul procedures including related auxiliary equipment is preferred.

  • Recent experience with Toshiba steam turbines in combined cycle service is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Desired

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

  • Ability to apply principle of logical thinking and deal with situations that will be encountered.

  • Strong mechanical and electric aptitude and a demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical and mechanical equipment are required.

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills are required. Must be able to work with minimal supervision and acquire basic computer skills. Experience in (Maximo®) work order management system is preferred.

  • Must be able to learn how to independently operate a combined cycle plant and communicate effectively with plant stakeholders.

  • Ability to perform physically demanding activities (i.e. climbing stairs & ladders, lifting heavy equipment) while working safely in all types of weather.

  • Must be able to handle complex, pressure situations and be adaptable to a changing work environment.

  • Must be able to support a 24/7 schedule, including holiday and back shift work when necessary.

  • Must be able to pass the pre-employment testing: TECH - Technician Occupations and GPO.
