The Security Specialist is responsible for supporting the site implementation of the Access Authorization Program, interfacing with employees and contract personnel, and granting unescorted access to nuclear facilities.


Educational / Background / Experience Requirements:

  • Highschool diploma or GED required

  • BSin Criminal Justice or related degree preferred

Background / Experience Requirements

  • Minimum2 years’ experience in Southern Nuclear plant security operationsrequired.

  • Alarmstation operator experience and prior exposure to badge officefunction/operations is preferred.

  • Experiencein a leadership position, formal or informal, is preferred.

  • Familiaritywith nuclear plant security requirements is required.

  • Knowledge and experience inNuclear Access Authorization In-Processing.

  • Knowledge in the NuclearConstruction Access processes is desired.

  • Knowledge and experience inTraining and/or Medical Program administration and processes is desired.

Technical Requirements

  • Detailedknowledge of security procedures and regulations.

  • Detailedknowledge of security systems and processes.

  • Workingknowledge of computer software programs as applicable.

  • Someovertime may be required, especially around outages.


  • Processing screening documentation to determine ifregulatory requirements for unescorted access authorization have beensatisfactorily completed.

  • Coordinating and/or conducting interviews and gatheringinformation to be utilized in the adjudication of adverse information.

  • Interfacing with the Fleet In-processing Specialistregarding access authorization issues.

  • Controlling safeguard materials.

  • Entering and verifying data in the SNC Access AuthorizationProgram and the Nuclear Industry Database (PADS).

  • Ensuring the review of data, documentation and adjudication results supports that applicantsseeking unescorted access authorization have met the requirements andstandards of the SNC Access Authorization Program.

  • Conducting Background Investigations as directed.

  • Evaluating trustworthiness and reliability elements basedon the accumulation of information which supports a positive finding,prior to granting unescorted access and informing the applicants of thebasis for any negative access decision.

  • Verifies clearances, fingerprints, administerspsychological screening exams, maintains access lists, and makes andissues badges.

  • Updating LMS as needed to support notifications forreinvestigations.
